Govt Reveals Plans to Train 6, 000 Nurses Through E-learning

Government has revealed plans to enroll and train six thousand Nurses in the next five years through e-learning.
This came to light when Health Minister Joseph Kasonde officially launched the e-learning programme as a method of training Nurses and Midwives in Zambia in Lusaka today.

Dr. Kasonde says this means that each registered school of Nursing will have to enroll at least not less than fifty students initially and eventually increase as they gain experience.

He explains that the e-learning programme will be approached in phases starting with five schools of Nursing in Ndola, Kitwe, Mufulira, Livingstone and Chipata to pioneer it from March 2014.

Dr. Kasonde has since appealed to the Ministry of Labour who conduct the aptitude tests as well as the Examination Council of Zambia who verify results for the provisionally selected candidates to work with the General Nursing Council to ensure a successful commencement of the training for Nurses through e-learning by March 2014.

He adds that the Ministry will support the efforts of collaborating partners such as Child Fund in looking at ways of extending the use of e-learning in training general clinical officers as well.

And Child Fund Acting National Director Doras Chirwa expressed optimism that the mentorship of the training will help to rekindle the old practice where junior staff looked up to their seniors for guidance.

She says it is Child Fund’s desire that the mentorship training provides the solution to the gaps the country has witnessed in the delivery of Healthcare in Hospitals and Clinics countrywide.

Does this minister Kasonde have brains at all!!!
First he wanted to distribute condoms in prisons and now e-learning for midwives. He is a medical doctor but I think even Sata as a constable did better as health minister this Runa*** Kasonde.
I miss Emmanuel Kasonde (MHSRIP) as Finance Minister he represented the brains of Mungwi, Mukosa and Malole than this imposter minister

E-learning (or eLearning) is the use of electronic media and information and communication technologies (ICT) in education. E-learning is broadly inclusive of all forms of educational technology in learning and teaching. E-learning is inclusive of, and is broadly synonymous with multimedia learning, technology-enhanced learning (TEL), computer-based instruction (CBI), computer-based training (CBT), computer-assisted instruction or computer-aided instruction (CAI), internet-based training (IBT), web-based training (WBT), online education, virtual education, virtual learning environments (VLE) (which are also called learning platforms), m-learning, and digital educational collaboration. These alternative names emphasize a particular aspect, component or delivery method.

E-learning includes numerous types of media that deliver text, audio, images, animation, and streaming video, and includes technology applications and processes such as audio or video tape, satellite TV, CD-ROM, and computer-based learning, as well as local intranet/extranet and web-based learning. Information and communication systems, whether free-standing or based on either local networks or the Internet in networked learning, underly many e-learning processes.[1]

E-learning can occur in or out of the classroom. It can be self-paced, asynchronous learning or may be instructor-led, synchronous learning. E-learning is suited to distance learning and flexible learning, but it can also be used in conjunction with face-to-face teaching, in which case the term blended learning is commonly used.

LOL! As though it were a business course. With nursing the first year you have to be in class learning with books usually no practical work involved.

Second year includes clinical familiarization, for instance; learning about medication and dealing with patients [Practical Work].

Lastly, the third year is internship. Correct me if I’m wrong, but how can e-learning work with nursing honestly?

This Government is full of dull people. Starting from the president to the Finance Minister. In the first place, why did they fire experienced nurses just to train new ones and online for that matter!! Do any of these twits know the value of experience? Moreover nursing is more of a practical job than theory…

PF has messed up the medical profession in this country. where on earth would u find a registered nurse and other related professions getting equal salary with a registry clerk? Some cadres are not easy to train, no wonder they are always in short supply. Training them by these simple means like e-learning, distance, etc, may not be very ideal. PF revisit your so called foolish “SALARY HARMONIZATION.” Though they are called diplomas or degrees, they aren’t the same!

my teacher taught me that everything is possible its just a matter of time. UNZA is to blame for all the ignorances we are exposing because the institution wanted to enjoy the monopoly of knowledge. if you hav TV signals and attached to health institution like clinic or hospital its very possible because there are trained health persnnel .you will like it
