Association President, Aaron Kamuti has told Q fm in an interview that it is no longer safe for bus drivers to keep moving in the night following the increase in number of accidents.
Mr. Kamuti notes that there is a lot of misbehaving and excitement by some bus drivers during the night thereby risking people’s lives.
He adds that usually the buses are overloaded and the drivers are also stressed after driving for long hours with very little rest.
He says government should also compel long distance bus operators to have two drivers per trip in order to reduce the road accidents that are mostly as a result of fatigue.
Mr. Kamuti has further urged commuters to be on alert each time they are traveling long distance and challenge the bus drivers whenever they notice any sign of tiredness in the drivers or drunkenness

It will not be fair to stop lon distance bused to move at night because you will only increase the time travelled hence increasing the stress. like if you are going to South Africa

People travel at night for different reasons. Commuters nid to be alert. Some drivers are careless on the road.

I support this suggestion 100%.
In the night the judgement is impaired no matter how skillfull you are, thats why there are lessons on night driving. Not every jim and jack can just drive in the night you need special skills.

We have spoken several times on this subject unless people lose lives that is when the debate comes on.Mr.Solomon Jere the current Deputy I.G managed to stop trucks from moving in the night when he was in Central Province. What is so difficult to say we have banned moving in the night. Both trucks and buses should not be allowed.
RTSA where are you?We are being tortured by foreign truck drivers with their sport lights. How do you allow a truck with eight(8)sport lights in additional headlamps .This makes twelves lights(12)on one truck.During night time they do not even dip their lights. You expect other motorists to survive this.
Even our locals have joined to put sports for what.mostly you use sport lights in winding roads or in the bush to see clearly.Charge these culprits in the sum of K10,000.00 they will stop and they are the causers of these accidents.Do something to save lives…….please.You have patrol vehicles to monitor certain situations.

There are several reasons why people move at night, for instance; some Newspaper companies have to transport their cargo after publishing around 20-21hrs in order for us to buy in the morning and heavily loaded vehicles may travel at night to avoid inconveniencing other road users. Government can find other ways of dealing with this issue-i suppose.

We all conveniently forget the truth. Buses have never been the best form of mass transit transportation. Trains aalways have.
People with vested interest have always messed up the funding and management of Tazara, ZR and / or RSZ. Imagine how much money would be made if our fong yong cars from japan could be transported by rail from Dar or Durban.
Who doesn’t know that Prof Clive Chirwa was hounded out of RSZ because he wanted to start shipping Zambia’s copper instead of Post Couriers and Arizona. That and the fact that he had had prersiderntial ambitions that PF wanted nipped in the bud.
If you want to cease road deaths, make the railways function again and keep them clean. Kabwe, Chisamba, kafue would become booming towns for accommodation. But noooooo some muther focker will start biaching about trains being Tonga.

accidents do n’t occur at night only. There is no substance in this action. The best solution is to maintain a highway with speed traps to detect the over speeding vehicles.

As long as Zambia will totally depend on road network we have to leave with road accidents. Its time we started thinking of rail and air network on commercial bases.

Mwebantu this is not the problem of Ratsa. Even if Mr Soko restrict Psv vehicles from traveling at night without calling upon God it is a share waste of time. These accidents are all about satanism. Please involve God Mr Soko.
