The anti-robbery squad yesterday shot a suspect in the leg as he was fleeing with fellow suspects from an accident scene when their Toyota Corona car punctured its oil sump following an audacious attempt to escape the police dragnet. The car chase was on Thabo Mbeki and involved four suspected criminals in a grey Toyota Corona and three unmarked cars belonging to the anti-robbery squad – popularly known as C5. The police shot one of the Toyota’s front tyres and the car hit into the curbs on the pavement. The suspects abandoned the stranded car and, despite the obvious risk of gunshots, ran on foot towards the new “UNZA Mall” under construction. One of them was immobilised when he was shot in the leg and the other was overtaken under pursuit. The remaining two escaped but one was later in the day captured.
The suspects are said to be of foreign origin.

Most bandits are non zambians, there are too many foreigners masquerading as masai hair dressers,congolese corridor shoe sellers. In ndola, they have even started putting up adverts of their businesses.

@kwa George:
Read the story again and try VERY HARD TO UNDERSTAND the sequence of events being described! For goodness sake, the story is only a paragraph long, and you can’t understand what it is saying???????
QUOTE: “…fleeing with fellow suspects from an accident scene…following an audacious attempt to escape the police dragnet. The car chase…involved four suspected criminals in a grey Toyota Corona and three unmarked cars belonging to the anti-robbery squad…”
Apparently there was a Police dragnet setup. And the Police/C5 does not just setup a dragnet for fun. These suspects must have been wanted or under surveillance, that’s why they tried to elude the C5 and a CAR CHASE ensued. The accident came later. What is so hard about this article for you to be so confused by it?????

And yes, running away from law enforcement, especially after a car chase, will get you shot anywhere in the world. They even lucky none of them was shot dead on the spot!!!

a similar incident took place in Mufulira yesterday except that a host of police officers made chase to a taxi driver, shooting and eventually managed to let the chap get into the ditch almost causing a fatality. A they wanted was to get money from him on pretext he was a traffic nuisance.

My thoughts on c5 are as follows,the only reason they know where these robberies or attacks by criminals are is because they share the spoiles with them,I can promises you that a lot of innocent people have been killed by these cops and further more ask yourselves why no official statement was made by the police spokesperson regarding the same incident???v
