Katongo Stirs A Storm In Victory

Chris Katongo

Chris Katongo

Christopher Katongo refuses bow out quietly and failed to recognise two goal hero Evans Kangwa after Zambia’s 2-1 friendly win over Uganda.

The 31-year-old clubless Zambia captain plodded his way through the 90 minutes plus five minutes of extra time on Wednesday night at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola as the young 22-year-old Nkana striker stole his thunder with a second half brace to complete Zambia’s dramatic win over The Uganda Cranes.
Katongo also slammed any calls for any radical revamp of Zambia’s ageing squad that won the 2012 Africa Cup, including his own future in the team, as what can only be described as a battle of ages brews in the Chipolopolo camp ahead of next September’s Morocco  2015 Africa Cup qualifiers.
“We won’t take out the experienced players….you just play two, three games at Nkana or whatever for one week or six months then he comes and plays Africa Cup of Nations. We are not going to take that,” Katongo said.
“We want a player who is going to be consistent for the club and then he comes in and he can challenge us no problem, he is going find us and challenges us.
“We have played football, we are experienced players, we know what is right and what is wrong so we are going control the people who want to influence our national team.
“They are three phases in a national team; there is Cecafa, Cosafa and the Africa Cup qualifiers.
“You can ask my captain from Uganda about the difference in levels in playing Cecafa and the Africa Cup of Nations.”
Meanwhile, another young gun and Kangwa’s Nkana club mate Ronald Kampamba, who scored 18 league goals last season plus three goals at the 2013 Cecafa Cup to help Zambia finish third at the tournament in Kenya, is also knocking on the door  for the Morocco qualifiers.

Mwilaitemwa, no wonder some are being let out like loose dogs without proper documentation with views to keep up with their careers,.
If others did the same to you would you have played to this extent?

Mudala just look at Brazilian football and tell some stars who made wave say 5 years ago? Very few or maybe nobody, the country is making use of fresh blood not just names.
Katongo is truly self-centered, he doesn’t have a vision for the national team.
      CLUB-LESS CAPTAIN.

Who knows, the incoming s might be different from other proven failures.

We know it already,he does not pass to any colleague who is in a better position to score,he would rather balloon the ball, reason is simple,he wants all the glory.foolishly he does not know kangwa when he scored a wonder goal in cosafa under 20 final against angola in bostwana, besides the young man has been around, prolific striker. You are the captain for the senior national team and junior national teams as such you must learn to have interest in what the junior guys are doing. This is zambia, tulalaba bwangu man,we shall forcefully force you out and it will be embarrassing. We can’t have a situation in zambia were tired and aged fellows continue clinging to positions be it in church, politics, employment, family etc.The transition is now not mukapwililile then we start over again,we have been through that route and it was very painful, just the thought of it makes me shiver.

Chris, cooperate with old age. It comes naturally with the passage of time. That young man you have targeted has nothing to do with it. You can try farming now.

In football to get better results is ideas.Katongo is lacking such kind of ideas in modern football.Do not be selfish when you are on the ball racing all the way midfield. You pass the ball and create chances for others to score.Because of your age now you should be used as a second half substitute to make you relax and you can even score in dying minutes of the game because of your vast experience as you claim to be.
Let the Young ones also prove their football skills on the pitch.DO NOT DISCOURAGE THEM.
You should retire with honor now.AKAFUPA UTEMENWE KALASHA UMUCENE.

If Katongo is playing well let him continue, look at some of the players in English premier league(e.g Eto,Yaya Toure etc) who are of Katongo’s age or even older and are playing well, while here we are quarrelling over the ages.Look at the average age and the mix in clubs like Chelsea and Bayern Munich and see how they are performing,we should not forget that experience and determination helps a person to succeed.

31 is just his football age. His real age maybe way above 31. Say 35 or over thats why he is now playing rubbish football. Can’t run for 90 minutes like he used to.

Katongo! your time is over. Whether you like it or not. That young lad has the future for zambia not you. Apa walipwa. We even wonder why you played 90 minutes for what?

Please katongo let the young man enjoy football at the national team cos football is about scoring. Zambia National Team is not your father’s team. Apa bonse nomba twalikusula, the respect we had for is long gone cos you cannot perform. Youself and Mayuka have no future at the national team cos you cannot deliver.

How can he say that as captain? that was ****** of him. What shall it benefit us to keep old experienced players who can not score or save goals? Infact its not him to decide who should be in the team. My open advise to to chriss is leave the stage while people are still clapping.

Most of the Zambian players have cheated about their age, look at Ronaldo is 29 and still has pace, scores and a marvel to watch. But mayuka at 22 is finished, Ba matongo please namukula do not be jealous just retire and the youngsters will respect you, otherwise your true age has caught up with you!
