MMD MPs Can Go Without Sitting Allowances – Nevers
NEVERS Mumba has described as intimidation the warning by Speaker of the National Assembly Dr Patrick Matibini that any member of parliament who intentionally absconds from the business of the House, including from asking questions on the order paper, will not be entitled to receive a sitting allowance for that particular day’s sitting.
And Mumba says his party cannot be used by any other opposition political party to advance its political agenda.
The MMD party benefits a cumulative amount of K2,500 every month from the emoluments of its members who represent it in the House
“We (MMD) were not voted in basically for allowances. We were voted to represent the aspirations of the Zambian people. The members of parliament are mature people and know that having their allowances forfeited is one of those contributions they will have to make for the country and all of them are resolved,” Mumba said.
He said that the members of parliament would remain unruly even if the allowances were not given.
“Whatever price is there to be paid is going to be paid. Nobody should intimidate lawmakers with the money issue because the reason they (members of parliament) are refusing to contribute to the business of the House is because they want Zambians to receive the constitution. We are supporting their every effort and no threat of any form is going to slow down this process,” he said.
And Mumba said MMD was not being used by any party as it had the highest number of members of parliament in the opposition.
Mumba claimed that it was him who raised the issue of the constitution, giving the position of the MMD that they would use direct political action and get on the streets to demonstrate and force the government to deliver the constitution timely.
“In the process other political parties have joined the chorus that was actually started by MMD. We have more members of parliament in opposition and obviously because of their numbers, they are making government feel the weight. So we are not doing this for any political party, we doing it for the Zambian people and nobody should try to make political mileage out of it. Zambians don’t want opposition political parties fighting about who is in front and who is at the back.”

indeed you are an *****! You say MMD failed to put up the constitution in their 20years of governance? Ask President Sata; he will tell you that President Chiluba had the constitution amended in 1996! Was this not MMD? You also need to know that late President Mwanawasa, who was MMD embarked on that crusade, taken up for accomplishment by his successor, President Banda, also MMD. It took the selfish PF and UPND members to ensure the process flops. It did flop indeed just for political inconvenience. Reason? The two opposition parties wanted the constitution to allow for 50+1, running mate as the most important articles. But today PF is saying that even the Chiluba’s amended one is constitution enough and good! Today the PF are saying they now agree that MMD was right not to have included the two articles.What a shame! Today UPND, as shameless as they are want to push for the constitution that they helped defeat. Unfortunately for this country, even the seemingly learned Zambians are being tossed here and there by political winds they subscribe to, without realizing they are being fooled. Analise issues you people and take an informed decision.

Blaming Nevers Mumba as an individual is being thoughtless.Michael Sata can be propery blamed because for ten years while in MMD,HE PLAYED A VERY PIVOTAL role in the affairs of Zambia.Nevers Mumba is a NEW Driver of MMD AND AS SUCH CAN HARDLY BE BLAMED as an individual for MMD failings when RB was President.In any case the MMD took the final NCC draft constitution to Parliament where both PF and UPND SHOT IT down.wHO IS TO BLAME?????

while we appreciate the concerns raised buy pipo who want the constitution surely is it fair for pipo who didnt tell PF to start the constitution to push them to finish it. PF started at their on time and its fair to allow them to finish at their own time

Infact you have killed the MMD faster than the way UNIP vanished from the political platform.Here there are two things involved.its either turn the MMD into a Christian Congregation or rebel faction.If you turn the MMD into a Christian Congregation, You shall enjoy the peace but if you become a rebel there two things involved. Zambians we are fools,This idea of compering what was failed and the current situation this two i think they do not terry.It does not mean if all your elder brothers failed then you can also not do it.Sata can release the Constitution,it’s because we are thinking he will be out of system,then if it is a pipos driven Constitution lets see what is inside so that we know the way forward than allowing to spend more.I do not think we will continue talking about transparency were there is not honest.That’s why tit for tat is the best because it does not faver any one. When you wrong others they will also do the some on some point in time.Lets not forget our seeds we planting.
