Shakafuswa: Beating PF Cadres Is Rendering A Service To The Nation
JONAS Shakafuswa yesterday justified the beating of PF cadres saying it was a service to the nation.
And UPND cadres yesterday revealed their plans to beat up Post Newspaper journalists including editor-in-chief Fred M’membe.
Meanwhile, PF losing candidate in the Katuba by-elections Moses Chilando says Shakafuswa is misrepresenting the people of Katuba.
Shortly after he was questioned by police in Kabwe, Shakafuswa, who is Katuba UPND member of parliament, said the beating up of PF cadres on election day in Katuba, for which he was warned and cautioned, was a service to the nation.
He said the UPND cadres were annoyed and beat up PF cadres, whom he said had provoked them.
“I have been warned and cautioned over an alleged assault case in the constituency (Katuba). There was no shooting incident; there was just some guys who disrupted elections. They whipped our guys who got annoyed and beat them up, so to me we were doing a service to the nation, the people of Katuba,” Shakafuswa said.
“I am coming on the 25th of this month. They are carrying out investigations and they will get back to us.”
Shakafuswa has declared that the UPND has arisen and will now react to any provocation by the PF.
Addressing cadres that went to support him in Kabwe, Shakafuswa warned that the UPND would not be intimidated by PF-sponsored thugs bent on stopping them from taking over the leadership of the country.
“If PF thinks the thugs are going to stop the people’s will, they are mistaken because the people have risen. If the thugs think they can intimidate us, let them intimidate (President Michael) Sata at State House and where he comes from; kuno ku mushesu, tashi cishi chabanyina (this is our land. It is not his mother’s land)!” Shakafuswa said.
Shakafuswa also alleged that police were being used as agents of the ruling party and warned that UPND would deal with them if they do not stop allowing themselves to be used as tools of oppression.
“Police are being used to intimidate the people of Zambia. If police have become so foolish as to feel they can be a tool of oppression, they have to choose whether to be with the people of Zambia or to be tools of oppression. South Africa was oppressed, Namibia was oppressed and Zimbabwe was oppressed. They are now free and if there is anyone in his foolish mind who thinks that the Zambians can be oppressed, let him remain foolish,” he warned.
Central Province police commanding commissioner Standwell Lungu said Skakafuswa had been warned and cautioned over his alleged involvement in an assault case occasioning actual bodily harm contrary to the Laws of Zambia.
He said the incident happened on February 25.
“This is a criminal offence… We wanted him to give his an account of what happened on that day. Investigations in that matter are on-going,” Lungu said.
Meanwhile, cadres prevented journalists from entering the premises of the party’s provincial trustee Godson Moonga where Shakafuswa was addressing them, and threatened to beat Post journalists.
The cadres locked out the journalists and showered them with verbal abuse, threatening to beat them if they did not leave.
The cadres locked the entrance to Moonga’s residence on Kabwe’s Uganda Street.
One cadre, Brian Mulenga, who was manning the gate warned that Post journalists would not be allowed to attend press briefings at the UPND secretariat and that they would be beaten if they attempted to do so.
“When we welcome you, you write rubbish about HH (UPND president Hakainde Hichilema). All you write is HH is a tribalist, HH is inciting nurses to strike, which is all lies. You will see, I am very ready to go to court myself. I don’t care after all twalisebana kale, even that Fred M’membe, I will personally manhandle him,” Mulenga warned. “Ask Vernon Mwaanga, twalimuponwene (we beat him up).”
Another cadre identified as Joe said the party was recruiting members to deal with Post journalists.
“Ask George Chellah, he will tell you what I did to him,” he warned.
And another cadre, Pumulo Sililo, said the UPND had declared war on The Post and that no one in the party was a friend of the newspaper.
Shortly after the cadres made the warning, Joe picked up two bricks and threatened to smash a Post vehicle if it did not drive out of the premises.

There is no justification for beating. Remember we took photos to SADC & commonwealth reporting PF and yet beating can be justified. WELL TIME WILL TELL

Your are playing with Fred Mmembe and you know that you pulling the tail of the tiger. I wish to advise you to concentrate on work as a law maker. Last advise is that should not infuriate any pain to anyone because you be arrested and jailed.I rest my case.

Shakafuswa hates bembas with a passion. He was in Levy’s cabinet and he enjoyed levy’s tribalism. Now he is on the other side crying and insulting bembas. In parliament, at the police he is always insulting bembas. Let me tell him that he won’t manage. PF will win with a landslide victory. Am not PF but his hatred for bembas makes me love PF more. The greatest tribalists are bembas my friends. From time in memorial they like to impose their tribe on others. No one wants to be looked down upon based on their tribe. This is a fact and until bembas learn and accept this fact, tribalism will always be there.

Bembas are the most tribal in Zambia and the greatest competitor against them is a fellow Bemba.The nature of bembas make them even more tribal than one wishes to accept. There are risk takers (which makes them to take on roles which other people may think twice before they dive in.), they are clever (smart) and looking at the politics of Zambia you need to outsmart others (even to the extent of behaving like a monkey) for you to get what you want.Their smartness is mixed with lying and…. the list goes on. In short the landscape in Zambian politics favour a bemba than most tribes likely other tribes are learning the ropes so fast. Just look at HH from the time he joined politics (2001) and now (2015) he is more bemba than he his tonga. And I tend to agree with advice that if you want to be in power and return your tribal identity then you have to start breeding like no one’s business to outsmart the bembas through the numbers game.

Bembas lets stay away from these immature fights, this talk of tribalism is being heard overseas and a lot are questioning the dignity of the two wrestle’ing tribes, outsiders will start looking down on us sooner than we think and the respect we owe people out there will be shifted to others, lets look at our mistakes if any (personally i have no crew how this talk with our tonga family started ).
Tongas we expect you to do the same for unity to prevail.
