Kaunda Resigns From KCM

KCM’S vice-president for human capital management David Kaunda has resigned with immediate effect.
Kaunda was once appointed to act as chief executive officer at Konkola Copper Mines by the mining company’s majority shareholder, Vedanta Resources, when the government revoked the work permit for then chief executive officer Kishor Kumar who left the country last November.
Kumar’s departure followed President Michael Sata’s rejection of plans by KCM to retrench over 1,500 miners citing operational challenges.
A source at KCM revealed that there were serious misunderstandings between Zambian professionals in management and the investors, a situation that was making senior officials to resign out of frustration.
The source said the government needed to intervene and save KCM from collapsing as there was an exodus of strategic management members that were critical to the survival of the mining company.
“…In Chililabombwe you know what’s happening.
You carried a story as The Post where miners protested over meals which is embarrassing, over Kampompo sure and that’s how serious the issue is. Any Zambian manager who has the interest of the nation at heart can resign in the manner Kaunda has done because some of these decisions being made by our Indian bosses are not in the interest of Zambia or the employees of KCM.”
Kaunda was unavailable for comment by press time as his mobile phone was switched off.
A memorandum circulated to all employees by acting chief executive officer David Ng’ambi dated March 18, 2014 confirmed Kaunda’s resignation.

I saw this coming,I have been in Mr Kaunda’s office on several occasions and i personally saw the frustrations being caused by Indians to Zambians,
By the way is the stubborn Ms Kapijimpanga still there? she thought favouring Indians will land her Kaunda’s position, Joy Sata too, this other madam nama glass kwati chipaso should learn to respect your own people, lastly am disappointed with President Sata ,Chingola resident voted for you and the rally you held at Chiwempala market you promised them a lot of changes in KCM,but in vain, look at the road from 1st street to town in Chingola? where is your wheelbarrow or sorry wilbur simuusa?

I am very disturbed to learn that DK has resigned from KCM. From the way I know DK, the man is a hands on person who knows what time of the day it is. How I wish he could continue to serve at KCM, but again, only himself knows why he left. Ouch!

I laugh at those people missing Kaunda. Kaunda is a total waste of time and a disgrace for that matter. He was busy employing his girl friends such as EVE Banda and Patricia Katongo. That man is like the snake in the Glass. Shame on him for running away. His powers has fallen like Alexandar the Great who was killed by only one mosquito

This is nothing new. Since Indians took over the company so many highly qualified Zambians have left. I left KCM only after 2 years. I was one of the graduates recruited for the Nchanga new Smelter project. Within a year into my employment I realized that I didn’t have a future with the company. Zambians are leaving the company in numbers from new young freshly recruited graduates to managers with many years of experience.
