Kitwe Man Sets Ex-Wife’s House Ablaze, Kills Own Children
POLICE in Kitwe have arrested a man of Ipusukilo compound for allegedly setting his ex-wife’s house ablaze and consequently causing the death of his two children.
Wellington Zulu is battling for his life after he allegedly drank Doom insecticide in an attempt to commit suicide following his torching the house of his former wife, Jane Siame Zulu, who is also nursing severe burns in Kitwe Central Hospital.
Copperbelt police commissioner Joyce Kasosa said yesterday that Wellington was in a critical condition.
“The children, identified as Jane, Mapalo and Betty, sustained serious burns and two of them died on Thursday due to the burns that were at 92.8 per cent,” she said.
But Kasosa could not give further details on the matter because of the respective condition of the two persons involved in the incident.
And Kasosa said police in Ndola have launched investigations in a case where a 13-year-old of Ndeke township was defiled by unknown men.
“This girl feared to be beaten by her stepmother at home, so she
ran away from home and she started wandering about. So as she was doing so, there came three men in a car, abducted her and took her in the bush where they took turns to defile her. She sustained injuries on her private parts and she is being treated at the hospital and a docket of defilement has been opened,” Kasosa said.
She said in Mufulira, Doreen Ng’onga, 29 had been charged with murder after she dumped her two-month-old baby in a pit latrine. She said the baby drowned.
“This woman claimed that the reason why she did that was because she was not receiving support from the husband of the child. She is in custody and she will appear in court soon. We have opened a docket of murder,” said Kasosa.
