Police in Lusaka have apprehended two suspected conmen who have been swindling people in Lusaka and Copperbelt out of huge sums of money.
Allan Mumba and Richard Milambo, both aged 46, of Lusaka’s Matero and Ndola’s Masala townships respectively, were apprehended yesterday, 26th March after a tip off from members of the public.
In a statement to Qfm News, Police Spokesperson Charity Munganga-Chanda has disclosed that the duo has been working with two other groups in swindling people out of huge sums of money by advertising the sale of property and motor vehicles through the print media when they did not own any.
Ms. Chanda says one group comprises of Given Simpose of Mushili in Ndola and Mulenga Mukuka of Kabwata while the other group comprises of Lameck, Kasonde and Boston, all of Lusaka’s Lilanda compound.
She says the mastermind of the groups calling themselves Poachmen is a Godfrey Mulenga popularly known as Goddie of Lusaka who drives a Beige Toyota VVTI and owns two homes in Emmasdale and Matero East.
Ms. Chanda narrates that upon receiving a response from prospective buyers, the said conmen usually arrange for the payment to be made from somewhere and when the potential buyer gets to the agreed place with the money, the conmen would come up with an appealing illegal business such as sale of precious stones to attract the buyers’ attention.
Ms. Chanda says it is at this time that they would ride in the same vehicle and push the buyer out of the car along the way, speeding away with the money.
She has warned that Police are now on the look-out for these criminals and that members of the public who could have fallen victim to these conmen and those with information leading to the apprehension of those on the loose should report to Woodlands Police Station.
