Catherine Phiri Speaks Out
World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver Bantamweight Champion Catherine Phiri has denied reports suggesting that her relationship with Oriental Boxing Promotions has soured, saying the stable has done enough to build her career.
The Sensational female boxer Catherine Phiri has however admitted that she is not earning big money in boxing.
On Monday, MUVI TV Sports revealed that Catherine got thirty seven thousand five hundred kwacha as purse money for a hard fought for World Boxing Council-WBC title.
And Catherine has lashed out at government for not fulfilling its promise of building her a house.
But Phiri says the move by her boxing stable to sponsor her education and accommodate her in a rented house compliments the purse money she receives at the end of each fight.

In a lengthy interview, Catherine described as a joke the recent posting on her facebook page, suggesting that she would quit boxing.

She’s fights in the ring and makes Money. Where does she take the money???
People must learn to work hard and not to wait for the government to spoon feed them. Has the government built houses for people like chingangu,galagata musicians etc????

K37,000 is a lot of money if spent wisely…. not shopping in pick and pay makeni like i saw you doing after that fight…. yes, you wearing a uniform. Let your parents handle your finaces and you will see that you will not cry to govt to build you a house. You will do that all by yourself. Govt has no obligation to build you a house.

The Government built a house for Easter Phiri and she was promised one and so it is only natural to remind the Government to fulfil their promise. That said, I feel it is wrong for the Govt to build houses for certain individuals who even have the capacity to build their own houses. These people earn much more than an average civil servant!

Bakaamba every proffessional sport is just like any other job to earn money and plan your future; why should it be the responsibility of the government to build u a house? Who ever promised u shd build u one,this ****** misuse of government resources shd come to an end.Even former presidents shdnt benefit frm building them houses after all they earn a lot to build mansions within a week. STOP THIS NO SENSE!
