Bishop Pleads Not Guilty To Defilement

A bishop(56) of Joana Masowe Church in Lusaka’s Marapodi Townhip yesterday opened defence in a case he is accused of defiling two girls allegedly recruited to train in sisterhood in the Church.
Lusaka magistrate Betty Malupenga, on March 27, found bishop Joshua Matongo with a case and placed him on defence.
Allegations are that Matongo, a farmer and businessman of Chisamba, defiled two girls aged 13 and 14, but he pleaded not guilty.
The girls had testified that they fled from Matongo’s farm in Chisamba where they had gone to train as sisters because he had unlawful carnal knowledge of them.
But Matongo has denied having carnal knowledge of the victims.
He testified that he did not even have a house in Chisamba as alleged by one of the victims who had told the court that she was defiled from Matongo’s bedroom in Chisamba.
“I never slept with victim, I did not have sex with her and I don’t have a bed in my office,” Matongo said.
The accused said he only had an office in Chisamba and it was not possible for him to have had carnal knowledge of the victims.
He said the houses where the sisters lived were close to each other and they were about four in each room.
Matongo narrated that one of the victims joined sisterhood in March 2012 while the other one did not qualify because she was found not to be a virgin.
He referred the court to a letter that was written rejecting one of the victims from joining sisterhood on condition of not being a virgin.
Matongo said there were elderly women in-charge of examining girls whether they were virgins, adding that one of the victims did not qualify but found herself in Chisamba because she went to live with her relatives.
He denied touching one of the victim’s breasts, saying such a thing never happened as the sisters moved in groups.

The kids too have become more complicated for all they need is to point a finger at you and the task remains with you to prove you didn’t! But in your quest to prove innocence be mindful that the other minds will be asking why among all men the juvenile should pick on you! Guilty!
