Newstead Zimba: Divorces Have Taught Me a Lesson

FORMER Information and Broadcasting Services minister in the MMD Government, Newstead Zimba has told the court that experiences in his previous divorces have taught him lessons.
Mr Zimba, however, told the court when he was asked by his former wife, Naomi Mbewe’s lawyer as to what happened with his first two marriages if he did not believe in divorce.
In his response, Mr Zimba said he divorced the first wife and abandoned the second one for Ms Mbewe, who has now dragged him to court in an appeal case over property sharing.
She has appealed against the Lusaka local court’s decision to grant Mr Zimba a house on Woodlands’ Nalikwanda Road after their divorce last year.
Ms Mbewe contends that she equally contributed to the purchase of the house while in marriage and as such, she should also benefit from the property.
Mr Zimba, who is also a former diplomat, has appealed against the local court’s decision to give Ms Mbewe one of the two vehicles, claiming they were both his.
During continued trial before Lusaka resident magistrate, Ireen Wushimanga yesterday, Mr Zimba urged the court to throw out Ms Mbewes request, saying he bought the house from his earnings.
“When I was in foreign Service, I was getting a lot of money, K38 million per month at some point. I was already minister when I married her so I had money,” he said.
Mr Zimba said the money which Ms Mbewe was making from her salon and other businesses was not much.
He said he allowed Ms Mbewe to co-hold the title of the house but that did not mean that she had contributed to its purchase.
Meanwhile, Ms Mbewe’s lawyers yesterday asked the court to intervene over Mr Zimba’s refusal to release Ms Mbewe’s personal property such as underwear, other clothes and the house.
Ms Wushimanga has since advised Ms Mbewe to put in a formal application to the court so that the matter could be attended to.
Mr Zimba confirmed to the court that there were some personal items belonging to Ms Mbewe at his house but that he did not ask her to leave the matrimonial home.

Just bed work contribution, women must learn to work hard and earn their own money not just to rely on claims that they suffered with you when you were buying this and that. Why were you not buying yours from your own thinking and abilities?

  6. Political Giant   May 7, 2014 at 10:36 am

The Problem with the politicians is that when they gain high positions in government start misbehaving by changing women and forget their wives who they suffered with when they were ordinary men like us. My advice is that when a young lady accept a propasal from a seasonal politician ,it all about money and nothing else. This lady was just interested in material gain from Mr Zimba.

No one should be divorcing their first partners, no one should be re marrying where the other partner is still alive. No one should be granting divorces but counselling and reconciliations.

newstead zimba was zctu sec general, he became a useless minister after mmd formed govt. To me he’s a politician to our zambian standard but be likened to a mere cleaner in countries who practice real politics. Whatever adada zimba is passing through: serves him right. It’s a trend in zambia for these useless politicians to divorce their mai gulus when they get appointed as ministers, ps’s etc. These are the same idiots who spread the dreaded kaliondeonde. They go in govt to reap, and not to leave a foot print. Adada zimba, muli azelezi chomene.

When Naomi started dated Newstead Zimba she thought she was the best thing to have happened to him. If you people remember the late wife even went to beat her up on Lagos Road that was in the early 90’s. I now wish the former wife was alive to see what is happening today. Why has Zimba suddenly become a bad man. When the wife was fighting for him Naomi did not want to let go, now that the man is back in Zambia and reality has set in she wants to leave him dry. Ala Lesa nimalyotola. God is now punishing you for your sins and this is just the beginning. It does not matter how long it tskes, God’s time is always the best. Naomi is now reaping what she sowed and Zimba will die a miserable man because the wife did not deserve what he did to her. May her soul rest in eternal peace. Finally she is getting justice for what she went through.
