ZESCO 2 ASSEMBLY 1
ZESCO United yesterday scored twice in three minutes to join Power Dynamos at the summit of the MTN Super Division log after edging a 10-man National Assembly in a Week Eight match at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
Zesco moved to 18 points at par with Power but the Kitwe side have a superior goal advantage.
Assembly had to play the final 15 minutes without head coach George Kapembwa, who was sent off for complaining against second assistant referee Francis Sishekanu for not signaling offside to Zesco’s second goal.
After a cagey first half, both sides came off their shells in the second stanza with Zesco scoring two goals and struck the frame of goal twice.
Jackson Mwanza got Zesco in front with a 67th minute free-kick that flew past goalkeeper Robert Mwanza before he set up Lazarus Kambole from an offside position on 70 minutes.
This infuriated Kapembwa who confronted Sishekanu before referee Wisdom Chewe sent him to the stands.
Assembly replied through skipper Morgan Kanjolo from the spot-kick on 84 minutes after Peter Mangani was hacked by Bornwell Silengo but there was a case of mistaken identity by the referee, who instead cautioned Emmanuel Mathias.
But the Assembly skipper was to earn a second booking and a sending-off in the 87th minute.
Assembly, who were handed the first defeat of the season, have 13 points.
INDENI 0 NKANA 0
In an early kick-off at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, Indeni swam out of the bottom four when they halted champions Nkana’s winning streak.
Prior to yesterday’s match, Nkana had won two matches in a row.
Although outplayed, Nkana were left cursing the ruined chances with Bruce Musakanya spurning the best opportunity when he blasted the ball over with only Indeni goalkeeper Peter Banda to beat.
