Katete Man Sets Himself Ablaze In Suicide Attempt

A 21-YEAR-OLD man of Nyanje’s Pandala village is nursing serious burns in Nyanje Mission Hospital after he attempted to commit suicide by pouring kerosene on his body before setting himself ablaze.
Misheck Banda wanted to take his life on Friday night after his father advised him to concentrate on the woman he had children with as opposed to marrying another.
Misheck’s father, Mabvuto Banda, said his son impregnated a named woman within the village and that her parents surrendered her to Misheck so that he could take care of her.
Banda said his son had two children with the same woman.
He said Misheck, who was in grade eleven at a secondary schools in Katete, started mistreating the woman and that he also accused her of not respecting him.
Banda further said that at times, his son could step on the beddings with slippers and accuse the wife of not being clean.
He said, later, his son wanted to marry another girl from the same village who is related to the woman he impregnated.
Banda said he advised his son to concentrate on “his wife” and not any other woman.
