This is too much for me to take, says mother of the 10-year-old girl of Ndola’s Kaloko area who has been forced out of school after discovering that she is pregnant.
In an interview in Kaloko on Wednesday, the girl’s mother said she was now a laughing stock in the community because her daughter was pregnant at a tender age.
“Which parent would be happy that their child is pregnant at 10 years for that matter? I am disappointed and I don’t know what to do. This child developed breasts when she was three years and at the age of seven, she became of age. I had no idea that she was pregnant until last month when my neighbours noticed some changes in her body and she was always sick. One of them took her to the hospital and she was told that the child was expecting,” she said.
She said she could not believe her ears when she learnt that her daughter was pregnant because she was too young to be a mother and that the community would laugh at her.
“I don’t know what to do. This child is too small to have another child. The bad thing is that the pregnancy is too advanced. She is over five months. I don’t know if she is able to deliver well. This is too much for me to take as a mother. Help me, please,” she said.
And the girl said she did not know who impregnated her but that she would know the person if she saw him.
When probed more on the matter, the girl stopped talking.

Maybe the age being quoted is not the true age. She could be older than the age being mentioned. However the mother as she has said, she needs help. Every parent is never happy when such an embarrassing thing happens to her child. With the medical facilities available she will be deliver by C-section. The grand mother to be she should not think about aborting the child’s pregnancy, this will kill the child.
It is a lesson to parents, these children we have know a lot of things. As parents we should be knowledgeable enough to help our children. You will not be surprised to hear that she was impregnated by another so called child. maybe a boy of 9 years impregnated her, so it is so embarrassing to the parents.

The history from the mother shows that the girl was in flight with growth and so she was with experiments. That being said she is below the legal bonking age, the criminal responsible must be brought to book or have the book taken to him. This girl and mother as well as dad if he is available know the beast behind the pregnancy.

Thus can happen to anyone. Let’s sympathise with this woman. Our children nowadays see so many things. I would not be surprised to hear that this poor child does not even know that she is pregnant. She is just equally surprised at the changes in her body. you have to understand that young girls are very naive especially at 10. She must have been lured by someone close to her family. She may not even know the implications of sex. Let’s unite as mother’s and see to it that she delivers and lead by example to other 10 year old girl children. Ala ukufunda umwana kufikapo. Mother’s let’s learn to teach our children the truth about sex. Day for embarrassment are gone. The world is changing ifyankama fyapwa kale. If they see sex on their phones and TV why can’t we talk about it openly. We can’t wait for banacimbusa it will be too late. We are busy criticising forgetting that we are affected one way or the other because it can also happen to someone close to us. May God protect our children.
