A LUSAKA woman has told the Matero Local Court that she caught her husband with his lover in a neighbouring township after he left home on the pretext of going to Kafue to source money for house rentals.
This was heard in a case where the court ordered Evans Musonda, 32, a bricklayer of Chunga to compensate Nora Nakaonga, 29, also of the same township, K8,000 for divorce.
Nakaonga sued Musonda for divorce due to endless marital disputes.
She told senior court magistrates Lewis Mumba and Petronella Kalyelye that problems started just after they married and that squabbles have continued to date.
“We have never lived well in our marriage. I have experienced 10 years of marriage without peace,” she said.
Nakaonga said Musonda would go on a working trip to as far as Kafue without leaving any money for family upkeep.
“I understood the situation my husband was in and took care of him and our two children for seven years. I have been paying rentals from the time we got married.
“The situation was unbearable and it led to our marriage adviser to give up on counselling us due to his arrogance after many counselling sessions. He would go away for two weeks and leave me with K20 only,” she said.
Nakaonga said on March 1 this year Musonda left home pretending that he had gone to Kafue to source money for rentals but one day - while with her friends – she saw him in Lilanda in a place called Paradise in a compromising posture with his lover.
“I told my friends about it and decided to call him. I put my phone on loud speaker for them to listen to the conversation. He answered my call, saying he was in Kafue and would return the following week after he was done with work,” she said.
Nakaonga told the court that she followed Musonda and his lover until they entered a certain house.
“I knocked on the door and his lover told me to get in. I found him sitting comfortably on the sofa and upon asking him why he lied about having gone to Kafue, he began to beat me and his lover joined in beating me after he told her I was his wife,” she said.
Nakaonga told the court that she is fed up of Musonda and is better off alone.
“We have sat down more than 10 times just to resolve our problems but to no avail,” she said.
However, Musonda said he loves his children dearly and denied ever neglecting the family.
He admitted having had an extra-marital affair and beating Nakaonga.
“I was only defending my pregnant lover because my wife and her sisters brutally attacked her,” Musonda said.
Musonda pleaded with the court not to grant divorce because he loves his wife despite the problems in their marriage.
But the court granted divorce and ordered Musonda to pay K200 monthly as maintenance for their two children and to share household goods equally, besides the K8,000 compensation.

These men are irritants. I do not understand why they can never be faithful to their wives. Surely, we are not perfect beings, but sometimes its too much.

She told senior court magistrates Lewis Mumba and Petronella Kalyelye that problems started just after they married and that squabbles have continued to date.
This to me shows that the couple went into marriage without knowing each other well, no compatibility, no courtship, how can problems start immediately after getting married?
