The ZRA officers want to ascertain who is generating money from the activities at the site to realise taxes for the authority.
The team of officers from the ZRA mobile compliance patrol team toured the mine in the presence of police officers from Kamfinsa police mobile unit who have been manning the area since last month.
And briefing the media, ZRA corporate communications manager Mumbuna Kufekisa said the authority wants the owners of the mine dump to start paying mineral royalty tax to Government.
Mr Kufekisa said according to the records at the Mines and Safety Department (MSD), the mine dump belongs to Nkana Alloy Smelting Company and that it is important that they start paying tax to government.
“As Zambia Revenue Authority, we are aware that there are mining activities taking place at this slug dump here in Kitwe. We want the owners to start paying us mineral royalty tax, which is six percent of what they produce,” he said.
Mr Kufekisa said ZRA has to secure Government revenue by ensuring that all mining activities in the country are taxed in accordance with the stipulated guidelines.
He urged the owners of the ‘black mountain’ to formalise their operations for ZRA to start collecting tax from the mining activities.
“Let me urge all miners countrywide that are operating from slug dumps to start paying tax to the Government. We need this money for the development of our country,” Mr Kufekisa said.
Wusakile ward councillor Davies Simunyola expressed shock to learn that the mine dumpsite in Kitwe belongs to Nkana Alloy Smelting Company.
Mr Simunyola, who was found at the dump site, said the mine area belongs to the people of Wusakile and threatened that no foreign investor would be allowed to conduct mining activities there.
“I am surprised that this dump site belongs to Nkana Alloy, we are not going to allow them to operate from this place, this slug dump belongs to the youths of Wusakile,” he said.

Why rush to collect revenue from the dump site when you can’t collect revenue from the actual mines? This is a joke! PF please consider putting the right managers at ZRA if it means bringing expatriates please do so. This embarrassing!
