FAZ president Kalusha Bwalya has been named among the 30 African football association leaders that allegedly received slush funds from former FIFA vice-president Mohammed Bin Hammam amounting to $80, 000 to influence the 2022 World Cup bid, England’s Sunday Times reports.
The report has published electronic mail (e-mail) correspondence between Kalusha and Bin Hammam’s officials detailing the exchanges.
According to the Sunday Times, a series of leaked emails suggest Bin Hammam paid $5 million to raise the Arab country’s chances of hosting the 2022 World Cup.
The Sunday Times released more than 30 leaked emails out of “hundreds of millions” of documents it says it obtained, some of which point to evidence of alleged “slush funds” that apparently helped Qatar win its bid.
The documents relate to payments allegedly made by Mohamed Bin Hammam, the former executive member of FIFA, football’s international governing body.
“[Bin Hammam] used 10 slush funds controlled by his private company and cash handouts to make dozens of payments of up to $200,000 into accounts controlled by the presidents of 30 African football associations who held sway over how the continent’s four executive (Exco) members would vote,” the Sunday Times said.
In one of the documents revealed by the Sunday Times, Kalusha Bwalya, president of the Zambian football association and former international footballer, allegedly wrote to Bin Hammam after a meeting in 2009.
“As per our conversation, please Mr President if you could assist me with about 50 thousand Dollars for my Football association and personal expenditures. I hope to repay you in the near future, as the burden is little bit too hard for me at this moment,” he wrote.
Bin Hammam’s staff allegedly paid $50,000 into Bwalya’s bank account, and there is no evidence to suggest he ever repaid the debt, the newspaper said.
Bwalya wrote to Bin Hammam’s assistant again in April 2011, saying he was “a little thin on resources”. Later that month, $30,000 dropped into his account, the newspaper said.

Some short sighted fools have been condensing Edem Djikotoe when he has been exposing happenings at Football house. Is Sunday Times jealous of Kalusha or Kasengele or Eric? We need an audit by madam Anna Chifungula of FAZ accounts, after all the man said he needed about $50,000 for FAZ and personal expenses. There’s also the issue of refunds from CAF. Who has been pocketing all that since FAZ has never returned/repaid the money to Govt at any time? Am I surprised? Not at all. FAZ, CAF and FAZ are all rotten to the core. Time to change things.
christus

“Condensing” should read “condemning”. Also it’s “FAZ, CAF and FIFA”

June 3, 2014 at 10:40 am
Ba Manhimself & D Kamenga this is the problem of little education. When someone says “lend me… for my “association & personal expenses” what does it imply? First FA’s (football associations) do NOT borrow money from individuals. FAZ is and has always been funded by GRZ apart from FIFA through CAF sometimes. Second, FAZ has its own bank account. Why transfer cash to Kalusha’s personal account? Third there’s no evidence that he repaid, if so let him produce it (oh by the way he said it’s ****** of him to accept cash?).
Kalusha’s name is in the email he sent to Bin Hammam iwe, what connection so you want? Get an education pleeeeeesem

Kokoti, get your facts right. The private jet that brought Litana to SA 96 was not chartered by Bin Hammam, or anyone for that matter. It was owned by the owner of the club Litana played for and it was he who laid it for the player to make the trip to SA. You’re trying too hard to defend Kalu. The point all of us should be debating is WHY Kalu alone has been mentioned by name when, according to the Sunday Times exposé, 29 other heads of African football federations allegedly received money from Bin Hammam’s people. Secondly, as has been pointed out by others, has the money ever reflected in any FAZ accounts, since it was given as the correspondence suggests he borrowed for himself and on behalf of the FAZ?
