Ghana will join the southern African contingent of nations to challenge Zambia for the 2014 Cosafa Cup title after the Black Stars accepted the southern Africa regional body’s invitation to compete in this year’s edition.
The 2014 Cosafa Cup will be hosted by Botswana from September 13 to 27.
“The Black Stars, who will be competing at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil later this month, notified COSAFA of their acceptance of the invitation to compete last week. The African giants will take the place of Comoros Islands, who have opted not to compete in this year’s championship, and will hope to become the first non-Southern African side to lift the trophy in the 17-year history of the regional showpiece,” Cosafa said in a statement released today.
Zambia won a record equaling 4th Cosafa title at Levy Mwanawasa stadium last July after beating the Zimbabwe Warriors in the final.
