Man Jailed Over Threats Against Ex-Wife’s Hubby

A 34-YEAR-OLD man of Choma’s Mwapona has been sentenced to one year imprisonment with hard labour by the Choma Magistrate’s Court for threatening to stab his former wife’s husband.
This is in a case in which Osley Milimo was charged with threatening violence, contrary to the Laws of Zambia.

It was alleged that  Milimo, on April 1 this year in Choma,  threatened Edgar Ndhlovu with injury to his person to which he said “Ndilakujaya sunu” which means “I will kill you today” in Tonga.
Passing the sentence last Thursday, Choma principal resident magistrate Willie Sinyangwe advised Milimo to forget about his former wife and move on.
“You should divorce your mind from your former wife, I sentence you to 12 months imprisonment with hard labour,” Mr Sinyangwe said.
Mr Ndhlovu, 41, told the court that on the fateful day, he drove to his shop on Macha road.
“I arrived at the shop, parked my car and went into my warehouse but I later came outside and started chatting with an old lady near my car,” he narrated.
Mr Ndhlovu testified that Milimo emerged and started insulting him and threatened to stab him.
“I got frightened and ran for my life but Milimo chased me three times around my car. I raced into my warehouse and closed the door but he forced the door open,” he said.
Mr Ndhlovu said after a struggle, two men came to his rescue and grabbed the knife from Milimo.
“We tied him up and took him to Choma Central Police Station,” Mr Ndhlovu said.
Another witness, Lesson Kanoma, one of the men who rescued Mr Ndhlovu, told the court that Mr Ndhlovu was terrified when Milimo tried to stab him.
And  Sunny Hamatanga, a police officer of Choma Central Police Station who was the arresting officer, told the court that Milimo confessed that he wanted to kill Mr Ndhlovu because he was frustrated that he married his former wife.
In his defence, Milimo denied threatening to stab Mr Ndhlovu but admitted that he fought with him because he was keeping his children.
