Artiste Masautso Nkoma says he has never come across a commandment in the Bible that forbids people from entering a coffin.
And Nkoma, aka Ruff Kaida, says many people in Zambia die without leaving a will because they are afraid of death.
The singer’s remarks come after most people condemned his casket act when he launched his Naked Truth album last weekend.
The BEFFTA award winner shocked many that witnessed his launch when he emerged on stage from a white coffin at Club Zed in Lusaka’s Kalingalinga area.
And as soon as pictures of him emerging from the casket were posted online last week, several people condemned the act while others complimented him.
The pictures attracted a lot of debate on social media as well as radio stations.
Most people accused the singer of being a Satanist who wished himself death.
However, in defence, Nkoma told The Post recently that people needed to understand that death came for everyone, hence it should not scare anyone.
“I don’t know what they mean by saying I am a Satanist because even in the Bible, there is no commandment which says thou shall not enter a coffin. I think people are just scared of death because “they have luggage”.
“If I want riches, I believe God would give me; the Lord will give me all that I desire and pray for,” Nkoma, a member of Mount Zion Church in Lusaka explained.
He said he staged the act in connection with a song titled Nikamisiya (When I die), which features P Jay.
The song, according to Nkoma, encourages people to learn to appreciate others when they are still alive.
It also reveals how he is not afraid of death since his God, the creator of all things, does not slumber.
“That thing of talking good things about someone only when they die should stop. I want us to start celebrating heroes whilst they are alive. I want to change the mindset of people and be a living testimony in the country,” he added.
Asked how he intended to change the mindsets of people, Nkoma explained that he would continue preaching through music.
“I will ask God to give me direction so that I keep talking the truth in my songs. People are learning something from my songs; at least, I can tell by the response so far,” he said.
And responding to others that accused him of imitating musicians like Lady Gaga, Nkoma said he believed he was able to do what Americans do because he, too, was created by the same God.
He stressed that he drew inspiration from God and that was why he sang about the truth.

Do most of the bloggers know you Alice Cooper? For the uninitiated Alice Cooper is an American rock music artist who is known for bizarre stage stunts such as biting the head off a bat on stage. One time I saw him cut into pieces with a chainsaw and then he reappeared singing “Be my Lover”

There is nothing wrong with the stunt. The young Man is being real. If you are seeing something for the first time, it doesn’t mean it’s wrong. And please grow up with your comments, why insult anyhow-that is what’s wrong.

That was very creative of you, Masautso. I like the idea and the creativity you had put in your album launch. By the way, if people can welcome the idea of a cross (on which Jesus died) why then should they shun the coffin/casket. They are all symbols of death. As an Atheist, I see no difference between the two and death is a reality that awaits everyone who is born of a human. Keep up with the creative mind, that is what makes an artist.

Ngoma….. now you are just showing us how ignorant you are. you are using the bible to your own downfall…..shame on you. you remind me of a person who opened the bible and did read that Judas Iscariot committed suicide…. closed the bible and opened another book that told him to go and do like wise>>>alas he wanted to kill himself and justified the act through the verses he read.
Kindly spare us the act… do not involve your church in your unholy acts and just humble yourself and apologies to the Zambian christian nation for publicly displaying that.

What he did was what the devil told him to do. It was an initiation of more deaths to come.I just wonder why even the police have failed to question him. I cant understand why ZAMBIA a Christian nation can allow such evil acts. Every day you hear a woman has been axed, murdered, bitten to death…..these are the people behind such acts. Meanwhile, you call them heroes for bringing calamities upon innocent Zambians. God help us.
