The Zambia national senior women’s team have qualified for their maiden Africa Women’s Championship after beating Zimbabwe 1 – 0 at home in a second leg second round qualifier to qualify 2 – 0 on aggregate.
Hellen Mubanga’s 37th minute goal was enough to send Zambia to the tournament which will be played in Namibia.
The Charles Bwale coached side’s path to the 2014 AWC saw them negotiate past Tanzania with a 3-2 aggregate win following a 2 – 1 victory in Lusaka and a 1-1 draw in Dar es Salaam to book a date with Zimbabwe.
Other teams which have qualified include hosts Namibia, South Africa (after the withdrawal of Comoros), Ivory Coast, Nigeria.
Other fixtures with results which were yet to be decided by press time are; Tunisia vs Algeria (1-2), Ghana vs Ethiopia (2-0), Cameroon vs Senegal (1-1).
The 2014 eight team tournament will be held from 11-25 October and also serves the continental qualifier for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada next year.
