Senior Chief Mukuni of the Toka-Leya people of Southern Province has argued that the recognition of a Chief by the Head of State alone does not make one a Chief in the eyes of the subjects.
Chief Mukuni explains that in the eyes of the people there are many processes required to be followed for one to be Chief of which recognition by the Head of State is just one of them.
Chief Mukuni told QFM News in an interview that Tradition must be respected because it has always been there before governments where formed.
He states that one is a Chief in the eyes of his people more than the recognition by the Head of State.
Chief Mukuni further explains that the reason why Chiefs are gazetted is to enable them get allowances from the government.
He adds that one can be Chief without getting subsidies from the government as long as he is recognized by his people.
On Monday, Chiefs and Traditional Affairs Minister Professor Nkandu Luo told a media briefing that as long as one is not recognized by the head of state they do not qualify to be Chief under the Chiefs Act.

Sosala and his political backers are what one can describe as vultures. My cousins are also dull as they have failed to challenge sosala to come out clean and prove that Sata is just up to no good. The stand off cannot be perpetual or one to give in. We have tO move on soon so that we can again have the annual UKUSEFYA PA NGWENA( iyafwa!) Cowards!!

But abena Icinshikululwa zoona….I have never seen….so you guys; in your eyes there is nothing wrong with whatever the president is doing? The president is not supposed to have total control of Chiefs. This has never happened before and it should not start now. This is why a new constitution is vital right now in order to reduce the powers of the head of state who thinks everything is in his hands and all that….

Tongas always talk sense, except a few caught in adultery who are being blackmailed by the Patriotic Flop (PF).
