Father Bwalya Suspicious About Discussion On Contentious Clauses

Alliance for Better Zambia President Frank Bwalya has charged that the PF government is aiming at creating an impression that it is the Zambian people who have rejected the contentious clauses in the draft constitution which it allegedly does not want to include in the new constitution.suspicious

Reacting to Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba’s statement that all contentious clauses in the final draft constitution will be subjected to public discussion prior the enactment of the constitution, Fr Bwalya says the PF government is on record to have spoken against clauses such as the 50 1 threshold for electing a republican president and the running-mate clauses.

Fr Bwalya has told Qfm News in a telephone interview that this is why his party believes the PF government is allegedly looking for a way to do away with the clauses on the basis that when people were allowed to discuss them they rejected them.

He claims the PF government will achieve this through a scheme of stage managing discussions by bringing a few people who will speak against the contentious clauses through state owned media.

Fr Bwalya has however urged Zambians not to allow such a thing to happen by continuously mounting pressure on the government to deliver the people driven constitution.

Meanwhile judgment in case in the matter in which Fr. Bwalya is charged with the offence of defaming President Michael Sata by referring to him as Chumbu Munshololwa has been set for 15th ,July ,2014 in Kasama.

And during trial today, Fr. Bwalya chose to remain silent arguing that he was put on his defence before the court listened to the recording that gave rise to the charges he is facing.

ba father do cry every time the PF makes the move over the constitution. The failure of PF enacting the constitution should be the success for opposition to win election but the enacting of a new constitution will be a win for PF.So ba just explain on what you shall do with the constitution once voted into office.

But, the Government is just one of the many interest groups, while the PF as a party is just one among the numerous NGOs and pressure groups that may speak for their partisan interests. They are supposed to be only a voice among multitudes of other voices. Why do they want to prescribe their qualifications and job descriptions, when they are employed and paid salaries and given all the facilities they use in their work by The People?

Let the owners, the People draw the Constitution which they must call their own – a People-Driven Constitution, and not a party driven or government-driven one. Let the People Talk!
