‘I’m Impotent, My Wife Is Responsible’

A LUSAKA man who has failed to have an erection has accused the wife of bewitching him, the Matero Local Court heard.
This was in a case in which Agrippa Tembo, 43 of Kabanana township sued his wife Sebe Zulu, 36, of the same township for divorce.  The couple has been married for 20 years.

Tembo told the court that he married Zulu in 1994 and that they have four children together.
He said everything was well until July, 2013 when his wife returned from the village.
“When she came back from the village, I tried to have sex with her but failed because I could not have an erection. I had an erection the next time I had sex with her but it was after a lot of effort. However, I have not been able to have sex since then because the problem has persisted. Since July last year, I have found it difficult to perform in bed,” Tembo said.
Tembo told the court that he consulted a witchdoctor who told him that Zulu was responsible for his problem.
“I was told by the witchdoctor that my wife put some traditional medicine on the cloth we used to wipe ourselves with after having sex. When I asked her about the same cloth she said she threw it away because it was worn out.  If you came to my house you would think I was a witchdoctor because of the many herbs I have been taking in order to regain my sexual potency,” he said.
Tembo told the court that he even informed his mother about what had happened to him because it was not fair for him to have feelings for his wife but fail to have sex with her.
And Zulu pleaded with the court not to grant the divorce because their children would suffer.
Zulu who was before Senior Court Magistrates Petronella Kalyelye and Lewis Mumba denied ever doing anything to negatively affect the functioning of her husband’s manhood.
“I have not done anything to him. It is not true that he fails to have sex with me”, Zulu said.
She however acknowledged that Tembo has not been as sexually active as before.
Passing judgment, the court granted the couple divorce and ordered Tembo to pay Zulu K7, 000 as compensation and K300 monthly as child maintenance.
The court said the accusation against Zulu was very serious adding that even if the couple was reconciled there would not have a peaceful marriage.

The ministry of justice must do something about the calibre and qualifications of the so called Justices in Local courts. Why is it that they still dispense stone age justice, always asking men to compensate women in this century where some women are far much better than men and are financially sound?

For sure coz we are beginning to think that judges are giving unfair judgements these days. Surely how can a broad day light murder merit only a one year sentence and a defilement merit a 25 year jail sentence with hard labour…AWE IT IS NOT FAIR.

Read and understand the law or better still why not become judges yourselves if you think you know the law defilement and infanticide are two different offenses and carry different verdicts all together any way let me not worst my knowledge.

Oops!! on a wrong site. @Thomas, one does not need to read the law to know that a judgement is unfair. There is no way we can compare murder and defilement. If murder has a lesser punishment as compared to defilement in law, then the law needs to be revisited….Only my opinion.

I am surprised that the local court justice could be convinced by Mr Tembo. His failure to perform has nothing to do with witchcraft. The man should just be honest and stop accusing the wife. The man must have been sleeping around when the wife was in the village or may be the man is not in the right frame of mind. Many of the reasons why some men have ”power failure” have to do with physical state or mental state. If the man was honest enough, he would have regained his sexual energy and continue ”hammering” the wife. It is unfortunate that he has lost his marriage due to sheer ignorance. I feel pity for the children.

Local court justices are always a suspect. Why are their judgements suspected of corruption.
