Government Increases Maize Price By K5

Government has announced the 2014 Maize floor price, pegging it at 70 Kwacha from the previous 65 Kwacha, per 50 kilogram bag.

Minister of Agriculture, Wylbur Simusa has made the announcement during the ministerial statement in parliament.

The seven-point-eight percent increment is the first rise on maize price in many years.

The minister has since indicated that the Food Reserve Agency FRA will start purchasing maize from farmers on July 1, 2014 in areas were the moisture content is acceptable.

    Hope it covers the cost of production. A welcome move knowing that Santa’s govt won’t sell it at K35 to millers so as to satisfy the rubble-rousers in the street. Work Hard bapompwe!!
