Pembe Man Shoots Nephew After Dispute Over Stolen Livestock

A 20 year man of Pemba is nursing bullet wounds after his uncle allegedly attempted to kill him for demanding a ‘fair’ share of six cows they allegedly stole in Sinazongwe.
Southern Province deputy commissioner of police Milner Muyambango, who identified the victim as Owen Mwimbi of Siakasanda village in Chief Moyo’s area, said yesterday that the incident happened last Tuesday.
Mr Muyambango said Mr Mwimbi was rushed to Pemba District Hospital after suffering gunshot wounds on his right arm and thigh.
He said police have launched a manhunt for Bibbiya Muchindu, also of Siakasanda village, who allegedly shot his nephew and dumped him in the bush around 03:00 hours.
“The man [Mr Muchindu], in the company of his two nephews, undertook a trip to Malima area in Sinazongwe for an illegal mission to steal cattle. They managed to get away with six head of cattle,” he said.
Mr Muyambango said on their way back to Pemba, a quarrel ensued among the trio after the two nephews demanded that the six cattle be shared equally.
“The two nephews suggested that they each get two cattle but the man [Mr Muchindu)]instead got four cattle and gave the remaining two to his nephews.
As the trio was approaching their village (Siakasanda), a quarrel ensued and Mr Muchindu, who had an unknown firearm, shot one of his nephews in the right arm and thigh. The man [Mr Mwimbi] lost consciousness,” Mr Muyambango said.
Mr Muchinda, who thought his nephew had died, dragged ‘the body’ into the bush and proceeded to Siakasanda village with his other nephew.
“Mr Mwimbi later regained consciousness and started shouting for help. Some villagers who heard his cry rescued him and rushed him to hospital for treatment,” Mr Muyambango said.
He said police have launched a manhunt for Mr Muchindu who is on the run.
“He will be charged with the offence of attempted murder”, Mr Muyambango said.
