THE Under-17 national team technical bench has selected three players from the ongoing Airtel Rising stars provincial trials.
In an interview after he witnessed the Copperbelt trials at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe yesterday, chairman of youth development team Lee Kawanu named the players as Mike Bisesa, Francisco Mwepu and Derrick Sichanga.
The trio has been named in the provisional Under-17 team that will face Botswana in next month’s Niger African Championship qualifier.
He said the presence of Under-17 national team coaches Chris Kaunda and Joel Bwalya was to ensure that players are picked on merit.
“It is clear that the door is still open. As long as they have the talent and potential, they’ll be selected,” Kawanu said.
And Copperbelt coordinator in charge of girls football Joe Masesa has promised that the final national selections will be held in Lusaka on June 28.
Over 200 players from around the Copperbelt attended the provincial trials.
Airtel intends to assess over 30,000 boys and girls this year.
The national championships will be held on August 9.
