Zambian Urologist Dr Manda Says he will not apologize for his recent statement that there was too much careless drinking among Some Zambian Women.
Reacting to NGOCC board chairperson Beatrice Grillo’s demand for an apology over his stament on beer drinking among women, Dr manda maintained that Zambian women had lost their cultural values because of their heavy and careless drinking habits.
“No! I will not apologize anything and I didn’t say all Zambian women are careless drinkers. I said some women and I want to challenge Grillo to go to her dictionary and find out the real meaning of some’. I won’t apologize because what I said about careless drinking among some Zambian women is true and some international research has proven it,” he said.
And Dr Manda challenged Grillow to stop issuing personal attacks and statements on him but instead convene a stakeholder meeting with other women organizations and get their views if she was to help find solutions to the scourge.
He also added those who rubbished his statement saying he too was a careless drinker were just being I personal and not sincere on the matter.
Dr manda was last week quoted that there is too much careless drinking among Zambian women.

It is not a lie that ‘Some Zambian Women’ have taken too much to the bottle. They spend sleepless nights in night clubs drinking carelessly. This has made them easy prey for the rampaging male drunkards. HIV infections on the increase!!!

I totally agree with our doctor, women in zambia drink heavily and carelessly.I first head this from the research result which conducted by international independent researchers. The research focused on African women and Zambian women came out on top on the list.

Dr. Manda, I support your view 100%. The problem with Zambian women, especially those running NGOs, is that they tend to defend anything related to women. Let our women be logical. No need to defend what is wrong! Grillow, please learn to accept mistakes. You are wrong to start challenging what is right. A lot of women know that what Dr. Manda said was true and is true. Why the hell should you start arguing? Even if you need funding from your funders you do not need to defend what is wrong. The best you can do is to use this as an opportunity to ask for funding to reduce careless drinking by some women.

I am a man and the only reason i would side with Grillo is because Zambian men are equally heavy drinkers. In fact Dr Manda should be the last one to condemn heavy drinking as he is also a culprit. He even looks immaciated because of his drinking habits.Listening to Dr Manda on this topic is like watching a thief chasing after another thief or watching Kabimba trying to get RB arrested.

People like you are a liability to the society and to me a person who can talk like that potray a personal vendatta he has towards Dr Manda. lets look @ the topic from a reality point of view. The truth is women have lost it when it comes to drinking and it’s not african. Lets apreciate never forget our culture. who would want to have a wife who drinks in clubs?

Dr Manda is right, Grille should be ashamed of herself for defending what is indefensible, some taxi drivers have openly confessed to sleeping with drunk women from Kitchen Parties and dump them at home without them knowing that they have been bonked. Yes some men drink and engage in immoral acts which is equally bad, but for some women it is worse as they do not even know what is happening to them.

You are missing the point.Women’s drinking issues is just one aspect of the consequences of alchol abuse.Others include road carnage, health issues etc.My point is that Manda is only condemning women when men are the worst culprits and he himself is guilty of the same sins he condemns.

Traditionally and according to our culture, women are supposed to be keepers of homes and role models where our daughters should look up to.
In those days even if a man may drink, it was unexpected that his wife could be drinking, let alone a drunkard. Even in instances where a man would want to find a woman to marry, he would not go ahead if it was revealed that the woman drinks.
Am tending to wonder what advice Grillo would have for women, by virtue of her status, she is supposed to be a Chief alangizi. But alas, most of these NGOs are there to advance the cause of moral decay in our society and no wonder mast of them are run by single-mothers.

Most of these NGOS are urgents of moral decay. They are a danger to our cherished culture. to our respected wives and daughters..no wonder most of them are run by single old and frustrated women who do not see anything wrong with what is considered morally and culturally unacceptable practice.
I think mamma GRIllo needs help. I would like my daughter to be well brought up according to our good culture in addition to academic education so that she will be an inspiration to the nation among her friends. not learned uncultured educated reject who will frequent night clubs..check it out…

The many comments show how inadequate many of us are in the English language! I am in total support with Dr. Manda’s statement and refusal to offer any apology! To whom and over what? Just to please people creating a storm in a tea cup who probably got an F in English subject! Where is the difficulty in understanding the discerning word “SOME” which Dr. Manda used? So if a statement is made that “Some children are rebellious towards their parents” one foresees an outcry! Yes SOME women drink irresponsibly as are SOME men who are womanizers! Aaawe sure! I pity Dr. Manda over attacks on his person on a straight forward observation. Next time Dr. maybe translate whatever statement into any local language you are comfortable with so that SOME of these bloggers facing challenges of the English language can get you right!

Human rights this, human rights that…when something is wrong, it is wrong man. The fact still remains some Zambian women (if not three quarters drink too much beer). This is not good at all. Beatrice Grillo (just like most NGOs run by women) should not always be in the habit of defending women even when things are wrong. It is like they are auto tuned to do so…..

I do not think she is defending women. She is only saying that men do it too if not in excess. The behaviour should be condemned in both men and women. Most comments here seem to imply that men can drink excessively and that is acceptable. And to the man who wants his daughter to be a well cultured lady, what is the point of bring up your daughter to be well balanced educated and only for her to marry a drunkard. Point is men too must be taught to be responsible. If not more so the men than women because they serve as heads of the home. A responsible man, a man who does not drink and cheat but puts his family first with paired with a well responsible woman will make for strong family society and country. So Dr Manda will do better to address the men first.
