About 20 people are feared dead after a Kabompo bound Mercedes Benz mini-bus they were in hit into a stationary truck along the Solwezi-Kabompo road in North Western Province.
ZANIS’ Shilla Masuwa reports that only about 7 out of 25 people on board are likely to have survived the accident but with severe injuries.
The accident happened at around 19hrs on Wednesday, about 56 kilometers from Kabompo boma along the Solwezi-Kasempa road.
And the driver of the bus, registration number ALG 4292 Collins Mukanka who is currently detained at Kabompo police station, says the stationary truck had no triangles or any other signage to show that there was a break down vehicle.

I was driving to Lusaka at 130kph when a foolish he goat driving Mazhandu bus over took me and I wondered at what speed he was driving with more than 60 lives on board. I know that even my 130kph is illegal on our roads, although there were no serious risks involved on my part, the highest speed limit I have seen in Zambia is 120kph.
Unless we act now to curb this kind of excitement in drivers, more innocent lives will continue to be at risk of going to the silent world.
