NATIONAL team coach Patrice Beaumelle is ready for a new contract and has set his eyes on taking the Chipolopolo to the 2018 Russia World Cup finals.
Beaumelle, whose contract expires on July 31, said during a press briefing in Lusaka yesterday that his dream is to guide the Chipolopolo to the World Cup.
He said Zambia have talent and potential to qualify for the World Cup.
“My dream is to take the Chipolopolo to the World Cup. This has been my dream since 2008 when I came as assistant coach and it is still the same. It’s not unrealistic, I believe we have the talent and potential to go to the World Cup. We have everything to take us to the World Cup,” he said.
Beaumelle is ready for another contract but needs support from all stakeholders, including the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) and Government.
On Tuesday, FAZ general secretary George Kasengele said the association will involve Government in negotiating for Beaumelle’s new contract because the coach is paid by the State.
“I am ready to have another one [contract] but everybody has to support. I need full support from FAZ and Government because it is very important. I am not begging for a contract. I am comfortable with anything. If I stay in Zambia my dream is to take the Chipolopolo to the World Cup and it’s every four years so it’s a long way to prepare,” Beaumelle said.
He said the Chipolopolo will use the 2015 and 2017 Africa Cup of Nations tournaments to prepare for the 2018 Russia World Cup qualification.
The 35-year-old said his aim was to finish the contract that he was offered after compatriot Herve Renard left for France last year and that the new contract will open a new page.
“I took charge of the team without any major target after we failed to qualify to the World Cup. I just wanted to finish my contract, which was July. Now the contract is finishing and we have to start a new page.
“If Zambia wants me with all my conditions, I will be more than happy but if they can’t for any reason, I have no problem. Everybody has a lot of respect for each other. I am very comfortable if it’s a yes or no…but if it’s a yes they have to follow my philosophy and my conditions, if it’s a no I will say thank you…you made me who I am and I made you who you are,” he said.
