THE Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Appeals Committee has upheld the Disciplinary Committee’s decision to sanction Division One (South) outfits Kafue Celtics and Lusaka Tigers.
The two sides appealed against the Disciplinary Committee’s decision to award points to Lusaka Dynamos and Mazabuka United.
Dynamos were awarded three points via a 2-0 scoreline after they travelled to fulfil a fixture against Celtics but the home side claimed the game had been postponed.
A similar case occurred between Mazabuka United and Lusaka Tigers where the latter ignored the official communication of the postponement of the match.
Mazabuka wrote to FAZ to request that the match be postponed and their request was granted but Tigers ignored claiming new office-bearers were not aware of the change in fixture.
Mazabuka were awarded three points via a 2-0 scoreline.
With this development, Dynamos have opened up a three-point lead at the summit with 36 points, three better than second-placed Luena Buffaloes while Mazabuka have 17 points.
“Having gone through the appeals by Lusaka Tigers and Kafue Celtic, the committee finds that the appeals have no merit,” Appeals Committee chairperson Mumba Kapumpa said.
Kapumpa said in a statement in Lusaka yesterday that the two cases revealed an unfortunate state of ignorance among clubs regarding the way fixtures are run.
“It is important that club officials acquaint themselves with all the rules and regulations that are issued by FAZ from time to time concerning the running of football, especially fixtures pertaining to different divisions,” he said.
