UPND’s ill Will On SATA Under Attack
DANIEL Munkombwe says it is unZambian for the UPND to start speculating over President Michael Sata’s health and expect that he will soon die so that the country can hold a presidential by-election.
And the Luapula Royal Establishment says members of parliament debating the health of President Michael Sata have become irrelevant and must resign.
Commenting on Vice-President Guy Scott’s statement in Parliament on Friday that UPND was in a campaign mode and its leaders are speculating about President Sata’s health through online media, Munkombwe said he was shocked by the traits some politicians in the opposition had adopted, which were not part of the Zambian culture.
“It is unAfrican; it is not normal. To us Zambians and particularly Tonga people, even if somebody is gasping, you don’t wish that person to go. Any people who think they must take advantage of an individual’s illness, whether that individual is a leader or not, is not a right thing to do,” the Southern Province minister said.
“It has become fashionable for them UPND to say, ‘We want to know because the President is the property of Zambia’. Yes, but who did not go for treatment? Our late president Frederick Chiluba was going for treatment several times. Our late Mwanawasa was going for treatment. Individuals have been going for treatment. What has changed now? It is a very unfortunate trend in our politics. If you are sure that you can win (elections), why wish others death?”
Meanwhile, Alliance for Democracy and Development president Charles Milupi said Zambians were sympathetic about the health status of President Sata.
Milupi said that no one should politicise the issue of the President’s health because that was not the culture of Zambians.
“There are some of us who are human beings, there are some of us who believe Mr Sata is a human being. He has got a family, he has got children, relatives and therefore we need to be sympathetic when there is any sign of ill health. He is an old man, he is about 75 and thereabouts; he is not young anymore,” Milupi said. “He has had some health issues even before he became President. The Zambian people are always very sympathetic.”
Milupi said the ADD wanted to wish President Sata well, but was however not happy with the manner the government was reporting about the President’s trip to Israel.
“Many of us want to pray for him and wish him well and symphathise with his family. We require our government to be open. We are a Christian country. The President does not belong to the PF; he belongs to the whole country,” said Milupi. “President Rupiah Banda in 2008 won (presidential elections) because Mwanawasa campaigned for him from the grave. Without the sympathy and goodwill that people had for Mwanawasa, Banda and MMD would never have won.”
And Luapula Royal Establishment chairperson chief Chisunka said traditional leaders in the area found debate on President Sata’s health unhealthy and unproductive.
“If these MPs have failed to serve the people, let them resign, they have become irrelevant. Instead of representing people’s interests, they are talking about someone’s health! We are not happy and tell them I am speaking on behalf of all the chiefs. Why should someone’s health become a national anthem? Anybody can fall ill,” chief Chisunka said.
He urged members of parliament to be reasonable and debate progressive matters.
The traditional leader said it was against Zambian tradition to ridicule a person over their health.
“Why should my people celebrate the sickness of a person? I am Tonga from Monze myself, cilatondwa (it is taboo) to celebrate another person’s illness. What by-election are they (UPND) talking about? Are they the owners of life? They are embarrassing us to the world,” said chief Chisunka.
Vice-President Dr Guy Scott on Friday in Parliament said the UPND was in a campaign mode and its leaders had been speculating about President Sata’s health through online media.

How did Sata behave when Mwanawasa was sick. Didn’t he have a field day? The Cabbages remember??? I pray all should learn a lesson from this. Nobody wishes to be ill, nobody. If you laugh at your friend over such, in no time it will be you on the sick bed.

Daniel Munkombwe is known for politics of the stomach so Daniel Munkombwe spare us that hypocrisy on what is Zambian and unZambian. Where is the constitution? As long as God leaves sata will not die. if you can do all what sata did why shud we vote for you becoz even in office you will be another sata. UPND cant bring the change we desire they are just coming to punish Bembas which God will never allow to hapen

If they want to go to state house to punish Bemba, let them try. But i assure you they cant succed, even if they manage to win the elections, they can’t punish Bembas. Bembas are not as docile as they are. I know bembas. Thats the time zambia will see bloodshed. Let them go to state house to govern and bring positive change not to punish Bembas
