ZESCO has embarked on a door-to-door energy saving campaign In an effort to create responsible use of energy among Various communities.
In an interview in Ndola,ZESCO spokesperson Henry Kapata disclosed that water levels in most reservoirs used to generate power had recorded a decrease,hence the need for consumers to use power responsibly.Usually during this period of the year Water levels in most Reservoirs where we generate power becomes low ..so we have embarked on a door-to-door energy saving campaign where we are encouraging the use of energy saving bulbs… we are actually exchanging ordinary bulbs for energy saving bulbs at no cost.we are almost done in Lusaka Province,we will soon move to other provinces,”he said .
However,Kapata cautioned households to be cautious of how energy saving bulbs are disposed of once broken,owing to the mercury they(bulbs) contain.
“Energy saving bulbs can last up to over three years but adults should take care to dispose of the bulbs properly once they break ,because they contain mercury which is a dangerous substance ,”be warned.
