Zambia Ranked Third Peaceful Nation

Zambia has been ranked the third peaceful nation in Africa and 44th in the world.

According to the 2014 Global Peace Index which has just been released, Mauritius is the most peaceful nation in Africa followed by Botswana and Zambia is third.

South Sudan is the least peaceful nation on the continent.

Zambia scored 1.791 on the Index which gauges global peace with the use of three themes which are the level of safety and security in Society, the extent of domestic or international conflict, and the degree of militarization.

Far from being a blanket of doom and gloom as it often is for Africa, there have been a few pleasant surprises.

Of the three countries that made the biggest improvements in peace since last year were a couple of African nations Cote d’Ivoire and Libya.

A common characteristic is that they have made considerable improvement in political stability in the wake of their previous conflict.

On the whole, the Global Peace index says this is the most peaceful century in human history.

The Index ranks 162 countries covering 99.6% of the world’s population.

Israel is one of the world’s most progressive countries in terms of equality for sexual minorities. Homosexuality was decriminalized in Israel over 20 years ago, and major Supreme Court decisions and groundbreaking legislation soon followed
