Maiko Says He Feels For Fellow Musician Kanene And Wishes Him Well

sdsMaiko Zulu says he feels for fellow musician General Kanene and wishes him well as he seeks bail and possible appeal against his 18-year sentence for defilement.
Zulu, a child rights activist and former Zambia Association of Musicians (ZAM) president, said in an interview on Friday that it would be inhuman for anyone to celebrate what had happened to Kanene.
“Nobody can celebrate over somebody’s incarceration…it is not fair to judge someone based on their standing in society. Of course Kanene is a public figure, but sometimes you jeopardise the case by commenting,” Zulu said who on Friday came to show solidarity to Kanene at the Supreme Court where his bail application pending appeal was denied by judge Albert Wood.
Zulu said he would not have been at the court to show support if he had celebrated Kanene’s conviction.
However, Zulu was quoted to have said Kanene – real name Clifford Dimba – needed to bear the consequences of his actions and that he had advised other artistes in the country to practice what they preach if they were to earn respect.
He was further quoted having said the sentencing of Kanene sent a strong message that people, especially celebrities, should live dignified lives in order to set good examples to their followers.
The Lusaka High Court on April 25 sentenced Kanene to 18 years imprisonment with hard labour for defiling a 14-year-old in 2012.

He would have been accepted a bail if he changed his name fromClifford Dimba to Clifford Bwalya Mulenga or Clifford Zulu.

Maiko was one of those who celebrated the incarceration of Kanene. Today he has realised that he was unfair to Kanene as the lady kanene slept with was just a prostitute.
