Southern province are the 2014 Airtel Rising Stars Champions after beating Luapula province by three goals to one, in a game played at Edwin Imboela stadium in Lusaka this afternoon.
Evans Silukomela(2) and Maybin Kalengo were the Scorers for Southern province, while Bradford Mwansa scored the only goal for Luapula.
Earlier, Copperbelt girls beat Lusaka by four goals to three in a penalty shoot out. The two teams had battled to a goaless draw in regular time.
Meanwhile Maybin Kalengo of Southern province has been named player of the tournament while Ireen Musukwa was named player of the tournament in the girls category.
Among the people that watched the finals were Deputy Minister for Home Affairs hon Nickson Chilangwa Chipolopolo Senior coach Patrice Beumelle, Under Seventeen National coach Chris Kaunda and his assistant Joe Bwalya, former referee Kabalamuna Chayu and Lupaula provincial Deputy Minister, hon General Benson Kapaya.
In a related development, Under Sevennten Coach Chris Kaunda has selected 40 players who will report for further trials aimed at selecting the final team to represent Zambia at the 2014 Airtel Rising Stars Africa championships to be held in Gabon later this year. The trials will be held at NASDEC in Luska tomorrow.
