Parents Marry Off 13 year Old Girl
Mr Mwambazi said according to school records, the named girl is 13 years old. She was married off by her parents.
He said the girl was married off last Saturday at a ceremony held at her parents’ home in Mulizye.
Mr Mwambazi said it is unfortunate that some children abruptly stop school only for school authorities to later discover that their pupil has been married off.
Mr Mwambazi also said it is sad that some parents view their children as a source of wealth which can be attained through marriages.
He said it is becoming common for parents in Nakonde to marry off their young children in exchange for cattle and goats.
Mr Mwambazi, however, warned the parents of the 13-year-old girl that they will be arrested
Mr Mwambazi said the Ministry of Education, Science, Vocational Training and Early Education, in partnership with Forum for African Women Educationalists of Zambia (FAWEZA), the Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED) and Chieftainess Waitwika, is working hard to sensitise residents on dangers of early marriages.

this is a catastrophe……first this girl will nt enjoy the sex,wn she gets pregnant it will be difficult cz shez young with immature organs….the husband will cheat on her wit an educated woman..he will insult her, make her pregnant every year…..worst of all she has lost out on her teenage n youth days….wn she reaches mid twenties. she will experience mid life crisis….thn find a boyfriend n cheat, thn children will suffer….I cn go on n on…crazy parents arrest them
