ZUNO: It Is Immoral For MPs To Demand a Pay Rise Amidst a Wage Freeze

The Zambia Union of Nurses Organization (ZUNO) is disappointed with demands by Members of Parliament (MPs) to have their emoluments increased in the midst of a National wage freeze.

ZUNO president Thom Yung’ana says it is shocking that the MPs are demanding a pay rise when they are the ones who had unanimously voted for a National wage freeze in the 2014 National budget.

In a statement released to QFM News in Lusaka today, Mr. Yung’ana says Zambia should embrace the culture of distributing National resources equitably and not creating artificial social strata that were subjected to different codes of conduct.

He says all Zambians should live by the same rules and laws because the decisions made by parliament should be for the benefit of every National regardless of their social status.

Mr. Yung’ana states that the MPs voted for the 2014 National budget that imposed a wage freeze for two years and moratorium on net recruitment for civil servants for one year, and that they should be seen to live by that collective decision.

He adds that memories are still fresh on how over five hundred Nurses, Midwives and other Paramedical Personnel were dismissed last year for demanding for increased salaries and better conditions of service, thus it would be unfair to have the MPs emoluments increased.

Mr. Yung’ana says the issue of wage increments should be approached courteously as it has the potential of raising unnecessary conflicts within the country if seen that some sections of society were benefitting more from the national cake than the rest.

He has since called on all well meaning Zambians and civil organizations to vehemently oppose this ill-intended motion by the MPs stating that yielding to their demands would defeat the purpose of the collective moral principles of good governance.

This should not be entertained! We are yet to see why some of the MPs are in parliament. If the opposition MPs are serious, this is one issue they need to stand up and oppose. They have been very vocal in criticising the PF govt on many fronts, let us see where their hearts lie!! Lining their pockets or serving the populace?

These faggots are parasites! When it comes to wage increase they are all united whether PF, UPND, MMD etc.
Its a shame that they think gratuity of K500,000 is not adequate for a mere 5 years. Do they know how much pension civil servants who have worked faithfully and tirelessly in most cases for over 30 yrs get?
Munkombwe was right when he said “we all go into politics for benefits..”

They say a leader always has followers, and a master has savants.who then is the boss and the employer? As leaders let us die a bit for the public service who employed us,as we r servants for the people.Being a leader calls for sacrifice for people not personal fattening of our pocket after expiring of terms in public offices.lets put the people first like our lord Jesus sacrificed for us all.

Should MP’s push ahead with this demand which they should know will not go down well with the electorate I must warn that they are inviting bees to themselves and must be ready to be stung!

But opposition Mps from UPND and MMD are the ones proposing for this. let them know that they are there for a national cause and by voluntarily.
This same MPs what do they do to get K500,000 in 2.5 years when a teacher would finish his 30 years life only to get ka K350,000. This is been selfish this opposition MPs and it shows that they will root the government if chances allows them to be in Government offices. Nevers Mumba and HH are supporting them. Nevers’ salary is paid from MMD MPs contributions, hence he is supporting them. Shame on all of us Zambians. If they want more money let them join the cooperate world, if there grade 9 qualifications will allow them.

This is day light robbery the MPs want to do. If there is wage freeze, it should be for everyone. Sometimes you wonder what kind of leaders we have, your interest is just for your well being and not for the people who voted for you. After 5years he gets more than K500,000 for just sitting in parliament yet a civil servant who has worked for more than 25years is given K200, 000 if he is lack. Opposition members of parliament we want to hear you talk about this issue, if you remain silent you will have failed people who voted for you.

Dishonourable Namugala Matrix, K1,000,000 gratuity for serving 5 years is nothing to her? Wonders shall never end. The majority of workers in this country only see that figure in their dreams after working for many many years.Ati opposition MPs, they are actually organized Master Plunderers.
