Zambian striker Emmanuel Mayuka helped himself to a rare goal when he scored in Southampton’s 6-0 win in the pre-season win over Belgian third division side Sporting Hasselt.
Mayuka, who is back with the Saints after a season on loan to French Ligue 1 outfit Sochaux, netted from the spot in the 78th minute as Ronald Koeman’s side recorded their second pre-season win.
The 27-member Southampton first team now wraps up their five-day two-match visit to Belgium that began with a 4-0 win over Dutch lower league club EHC Hoensbroek on Tuesday.
Other goals were scored by debutant Graziano Pele who contributed a brace with Sam McQueen, Sama Gallager and an own goal for the hosts.
Mayuka is hoping to win over new coach Koeman’s favour as the saints warms up for the 2014-15 season.
