Chipata SEEKS To Reduce Prostitution

The Chipata District administration officer has stated carrying out some night sensitizations in drinking places in a bid to reduce the escalating levels of prostitution in the district.

And Nyimba district Hospital has been operating without a mortuary for the past seven months. This came to light during the Eastern Province Development Coordinating Commitee meeting held held at Luangwa house on Thursday.During the previous PDCC meeting it was observed that prostitution had escalated in Chipata District due to increased economical activities.

It was also noted that stakeholders such as District AIDS Task Force(DATF) were only sensitizing girls on the dangers of prostitution, leaving out the menfolk. The district administration and DATF were then tasked to sensitize the menfolk and report the progress on the matter. In his report,Chipata District Commisioner,Kalunga Zulu, said his office,in conjunction with DATF,carried out some night Sensitization in a number of drinking places.

And Nyimba district commissioner,George Phiri, said the mortuary unit at the district Hospital had not been working since January this year.

Phiri said the district was currently using the mortualy for Petauke District Hospital, which was very far from Nyimba.

i am a resident of fort jameson and i haven’t noticed anything in place to reduce prostitution. I wouldn’t like my tax payers’ money to be wasted on this exercise in futility. To the contrary prostitution is on the increase due to various economic activities in chipata. I hope they won’t include my mbuyas on this beat because they can’t resist the beuty of those ngoni queens who lineup some of our roads at night looking for clients. Osauzya banthu wenye mweo a kalunga zulu.
