It Was Impossible To Turn Down The Chance To Work For Jose Mourinho Again-Drogba

1284959-27691844-2560-1440-300x168 Didier Drogba says it was impossible to turn down the chance to work for Jose Mourinho again after his return to Chelsea was confirmed.

The striker has signed a one-year contract to return to Chelsea, two years after he left the club by scoring a Champions League-winning penalty against Bayern Munich

Mourinho first signed Drogba in 2004 for £24 million from Marseille and the Ivorian went on to score 157 goals in eight years at Stamford Bridge.

Drogba has returned on a free transfer after turning down the opportunity to stay at Galatasaray and snubbing offers from Juventus and Major League Soccer clubs.

Mourinho first approached Drogba about the possibility of moving back to Chelsea last summer after taking over as manager for the second time. “It was an easy decision – I couldn’t turn down the opportunity to work with Jose again,” the 36-year-old said. “Everyone knows the special relationship I have with this club and it has always felt like home to me.

“My desire to win is still the same and I look forward to the opportunity to help this team. I am excited for this next chapter of my career.”

Mourinho denied that the success he and Drogba have enjoyed in the past was the main motivation for linking up again.

“He’s coming because he’s one of the best strikers in Europe,” Mourinho said. “I know his personality very well and I know if he comes back he’s not protected by history or what he’s done for this club previously. He is coming with the mentality to make more history.”
