KK, Scott Root For Africa Cup Bid ‘Give Us Chance To Host 2019′

VICE-PRESIDENT Guy Scott has appealed to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to give Zambia an opportunity to host the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

And first President Kenneth Kaunda has urged CAF to make a decision that will benefit the continent when awarding the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations hosting rights.
Scott was speaking when CAF inspectors, who are in the country to assess the facilities, paid a courtesy call on him at Cabinet Office in Lusaka yesterday. Kaunda made the appeal at his State Lodge residence.
Scott, who assured the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) of Government’s support over the 2019 AfCON bid, said Zambia has capacity to host an event like the Africa Cup because the country has good infrastructure.
“We have the facilities like National Heroes Stadium and Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola. These are state-of-the-art structures. We will also build one more stadium in Livingstone and the hotels there are world-class, so there will be no problem there. All is well here and even the weather is favourable,” he said.
Scott was flanked by Minister of Youth and Sport Chishimba Kambwili and Minister of Local Government and Housing Emmanuel Chenda.
Scott jokingly said CAF should award the 2019 hosting rights to a country that has won the Africa Cup of Nations before.
And Kambwili said Zambia is anxiously waiting for September 20 when CAF will announce the country that will host the 2019 AfCON finals.
Earlier Kaunda, who is also the 2019 bid ambassador, said it is the country’s prayer that CAF makes the right decision when awarding the hosting rights.
“We believe you [CAF] will make the right decision. I can’t say anything more than you have seen. The decision that CAF will make should be the one that will benefit Africa.
“I hope you [CAF inspectors] have enjoyed yourselves here and seen all we have to offer. I am happy you have Kalusha [Bwalya] in the entourage guiding you through because I can’t tell you anymore than this young man can tell you,” Kaunda said.
CAF inspectors’ head of delegation Amadou Diakite said they were happy that Kaunda had agreed to meet them.
“We will take the message to CAF executive, especially the modest counsel that we should make a wise choice. On behalf of the President of CAF [Issa Hayatou], I want to express our gratitude that you have agreed to meet us and I want to assure you that we shall follow your wise counsel as an African statesman,” Diakite said.
The CAF inspectors that comprise Diakite, Paul Bassey and Amr Fahmy were yesterday scheduled to leave for the Copperbelt to continue the assessment of facilities.
Other countries bidding to host the 2019 AfCON are Algeria, Cameroon, Guinea and Ivory Coast.

@memory, I agree with everything you have said. I cant say more. Zambia is not supposed to be the way it is, with no infrastructure. This is the country which has money but all the money is stolen by politicians.
