Opposition Candidates Stink Of Corruption -Mwaliteta

Obvious Mwaliteta says opposition candidates in the forthcoming by-elections stink of corruption.

Commenting on the adoption of candidates whose elections were nullified on grounds of corruption by the Supreme Court, Mwaliteta, who is Kafue PF member of parliament, said the electorate should reject corrupt candidates because they would contaminate society.

Mwaliteta (right) said the re-adoption of corrupt candidates by the MMD and UPND was an indication that they could not be trusted with public resources.

“Their candidates for Solwezi Central, (Lucky Mulusa), Zambezi West (Charles Kakoma), Vubwi (Eustarckio Kazonga), Kasenengwa (Victoria Kalima) and Mkushi South (Sydney Chisanga) were found to be corrupt by the courts of law and their elections nullified. So what can a corrupt person offer to our people? The majority of our people are poor and in rural areas the literacy levels are low so you don’t expect these people to be held accountable. In Mangango, PF refused to field Robert Chiseke for the same reason because we abhor corruption, but our colleagues adopt corrupt people. It means they support corruption and can’t be trusted with public resources,” Mwaliteta said.

He said it was regrettable that some opposition members of parliament that accused the PF of corruption were among those the courts found to be corrupt.

“Cornelius Mweetwa, the APNAC (African Parliamentarian Network Against Corruption) chairperson and UPND Choma Central member of parliament, who should have come out to condemn the endorsement of corruption by his party, is quiet. Why should we trust that he is genuinely championing the fight against corruption? Mweetwa must resign. He’s part of the supreme body that endorsed those corrupt candidates in UPND and he’s quiet. He’s a disgrace to this fight and as long as we continue having him at the helm of APNAC, we should as well forget about fighting corruption,” he said.

Mwaliteta said this was an opportune time for Mweetwa to provide leadership by condemning his party’s endorsement of corrupt candidates.
