Thieves Break Into Ndola ZamPost And Steal K300,000

SUSPECTED thieves on Thursday broke into the Zambia Postal Services Corporation (Zampost) offices in Ndola and got away with about K300,000 cash.
Zampost director-operations Alex Mayeya said the theft occurred on Thursday night.

Mr Mayeya said the suspected thieves broke in to the Zampost strongroom but it is not known how they managed to gain entry.
He said the corporation is extremely concerned and upset about the bizarre incident as the amount of money involved is quite colossal.
“Yes, I can confirm that we experienced a theft at our offices in Ndola. We are not yet certain about the amount of money stolen but it’s close to K300,000. I must state here that, as a corporation, we are upset with this development because Zampost is a national institution which is owned by Zambians, hence, stealing from Zampost is like stealing from oneself,” Mr Mayeya noted.
He has appealed to members of the public who may have information that would lead to the recovery of the money to assist the corporation.
He added it had not yet come to the company’s attention as to whether anything else was stolen from the strongroom but that it appeared as though the main target was the money.
Copperbelt Province police commissioner Joyce Kasosa could not be reached for a comment on the matter as she was in a meeting for most part of yesterday.

@Anderson Chikala, sorry, Chisala: From your post I can see that you just know of SA thru the news. Ukatwaleko icimpwena! Bakakususulako nakalipuli. Theft, murders, swindlers, drobbers in RSA come only second to Nigeria. Biggest question for the post is why that money was not banked! KWASILA!! Internal trick.

This case exposes a lot of management incompetence.
    a number of questions
    1. What is the authorized reserve for Ndola post office.
    2. If it is in that range of the stolen money what security measures were in place to protect people and property.
    3. In light of what has happened what is zampost going to do to avoid similar incidents from occurring.
It appears lessons have not been learnt this is the second time this is happening, and all the director of operations can say is ‘this is like stealing from oneself’?!
This is a systemic problem! That needs bold management!

Its a PF lie. This is a State controlled firm, and the bloke PF is just playing tricks to get away with money from these state controlled institutions for bye elections. How can an institution keep such huge amounts of money at its premises instead of banking it? Prudent accounting demands all cash takings taken to the bank daily. Just think of it, why is it that just last week, it was at another state controlled Roads dept institution where huge sums of money was mysteriously stolen and up to now the culprits have not been traced? PF is father of deception and lies……
