PF secretary general Wynter Kabimba says the party’s victory in the Mangango by-election will resonate with next month’s by-elections in which he expects 100 per cent victory.
In interview, Kabimba, who is also justice minister, said Tuesday’s victory in Mangango was well deserved as it was not scooped by chance.
“There is no doubt the victory in Mangango is going to resonate to the other by-elections. The fundamental factor is that our people around the country are seeing what this party is doing. They are beginning to make comparisons between MMD era and the 2 years of PF,” he said.
“Otherwise, how do you explain the fact that in 2011, PF came third, a miserable third for that matter [in Mangango?] Three years down the road, we are able to kick out MMD from the first position.
There is no magic. It is what we have developed and what people are able to see.”
Kabimba said PF was not in existence to make political statements but to deliver.
“It is a group of men and women that are serious about developing this country, so people will not listen to political rhetoric of the opposition such as ‘Do people eat roads?’ Of course, everybody knows that people do not eat roads and that they walk and travel on roads, which make a difference in the lives of people,” he said. “The opposition are shooting themselves in the foot by not moving along with the people. The people are way ahead of them on account of the performance of the Patriotic Front and nothing they say by way of political rhetoric is going to change the development process that the people see being rolled out by the Patriotic Front.
“The people of Mkushi South want development. The people of Kasenengwa, Vubwi, Zambezi West and Solwezi Central constituencies want development; to visit them that is what we intend to do as a party.”
By-elections in the five constituencies are scheduled for September 11.
Kabimba said overall, the PF had done well.
“We have picked 18 out of 25 [local government seats]. That is a distinction in the class,” he said.
And Kabimba said the MMD does not need a death certificate to believe that it is dead.
He said Eastern Province, where MMD was claiming to be popular, would be an easy ride for the ruling party.
“MMD is gone. It is a closed chapter in history. If you are going to get 136 votes in Mangango, where you came out first in 2011, if you are going to plunge from first position and get a miserable 136 votes, surely you do not need a death certificate. MMD is gone. Other political parties are non-factors. UPND is on the decline. The only party that continues going up graphically is PF,” said Kabimba.
And Bahati PF member of parliament Harry Kalaba said the UPND could not grow the party from one province.
“You cannot grow Zambia, if you want to grow it from one region. So our victory in Mangango is a clear testimony that we are a party that cuts across regions. Today, to speak tribe, to speak region is doing oneself a disservice and people of Mangango Constituency have said no to regionalism and this is a big lesson for some of our colleagues who feel they can do politics of patronising regions and ethnic groupings because people are not interested,” said Kalaba. “We have a leader who knows exactly where he is taking the country.”

Why fighting with the corpse? If M.M.D. why worried about it? The fact that some People are busy talking about it is an indication that it is still alive. So leave it and focus on developmental issues.

At what cost did PF win the Mangango seat? All DCs,Ministers,Deputy Ministers etc were camped in Mangango at tax payers expense. For records sake, generally speaking, the results in by-elections always favor the party in government.Check the results of by-elections held in 2011 just a few months before the general elections where MMD swept 98% of the wards on offer. What was the result in the 2011 general elections???

Ba Joyce nabo!! This is neither near Gen Elections or a historical contest. But what Winter Kabwamba is stating is that MMD lives unreality. Muhabi usually lives in an ideal state. Utopi!!
