Court Fines Pupil for Impregnating Teen
A PARENT from Lusaka’s Garden compound has sued a 19-year-old grade 9 pupil for impregnating his daughter.
In this case before the Boma Local Court, the pupil was sued by the girl’s father for deflowering his daughter.
In his statement, the boy admitted having an affair with the girl, 17, who is also in grade 9.
He said the duo had sex, which resulted in the girl falling pregnant.
And the girl, who was present in court during trial, confirmed being in a relationship with the boy and that the duo had sex several times before she fell pregnant.
The girl’s father said he decided to sue after the boy’s family refused to go and discuss the issue of the pregnancy when they were summoned.
The boy’s father said his family was waiting for the girl to deliver for them to proceed to discuss the issue.
Passing judgment, the court noted that even though there was consent between the two, the boy destroyed the girl’s virginity.
The court ordered the boy to pay the girl’s father K6,000 in installments of K200, beginning September.
The court also advised parents against marrying off their children as they were not prepared psychologically.
The court urged the teenagers to return to school and look forward to a bright future despite their mistake.
And the court fined another man K6,000 for impregnating Elizabeth Chitalu’s daughter.
Martin Chola earlier denied impregnating Chitalu’s daughter, but admitted when he appeared in court.
He told court that he knew the girl in January 2013 and made her pregnant in April the same year. Chola was fined K6,000 to be paid in installments of K300.
