A 25-Year-old woman of Lusaka’s Mtendere East compound is demanding K10,000 compensation from her husband’s lover, who allegedly scalded her with porridge.
Dorica Banda, who is nursing injuries, said in an interview that she wanted Linda Mwela, whom her husband’s brother had brought into their matrimonial home, to compensate her for the pain and harm she allegedly inflicted on her.
Banda said her husband Justine Simpanje was not home when Mwela poured the hot porridge on her. The scalds caused the skin on her face, chest, arm and ear to peel off, and left her with terrible wounds.
“My husband had travelled elsewhere. And I was surprised when one of his brothers came home with a three-months-old pregnant woman, telling me she had come to live right in my house and claiming she was carrying my husband’s child,” she said.
She said she was shocked at the development as she did not recall her husband ever mentioning that he had impregnated another woman.
“My brother-in-law really shocked me and what was worse was that he left this woman to stay with me under my roof when he knew it would just bring problems, especially in the absence of my husband. I stayed with this woman for about two months because my in-law asked her to hang around, saying I was going to abandon my house for her, which I never did because my husband did not send me ,” she said.
She said last Friday, Mwela decided to pour the boiling porridge on her for her alleged stubbornness and refusal to leave the house for her.
“She woke up very early that fateful morning and started shouting and insulting me, questioning why I was not leaving my house for her when my husband (Simpanje) no longer wanted me as his wife. This really surprised me,” she said.
“I called her a husband-snatcher because her mission was to ruin my marriage which I had struggled to build, and it was after this that she rushed to the kitchen, grabbed a pot of porridge from the fire and before I could realise it, she had already poured it on me. And she went further to pour the little that had remained in the pot on my one-year-four-month-old son.”
She disclosed that Mwela was arrested by police but released on bond, a situation she described as unfortunate.
“My husband has asked me to forgive her and some of Linda’s family members have been coming here also to beg for my forgiveness. But how can I forgive her just like that when she has destroyed my life? Just look at the harm she has caused me. She had the guts to follow me to my house and that is why I would want her and her family to give me a K10,000 compensation, failure to which I will surrender the case to the courts of law for fair judgment,” said Banda.
And police acting spokesperson, Esther Katongo confirmed in an interview that Mwela, who was detained at Mtendere East police station and was charged with assault and occasioning bodily harm, had been released on bond, as the offence allowed for bond.

The scalded woman seems not to have absolutely no powers in her own house. If this was to happen to my lady!! Mamamama! The husband would have found 2 corpses: 1for his brother, the other for his strumpet. Ati 10pin for her lifelong scars, Ataseee! Plastic surgery in USA!!!
