GIRLS as young as 10 years old are being administered with family planning contraceptives in various health centres in Livingstone.
District medical office acting HIV/AIDS co-ordinator Habben Kolala said health institutions in Livingstone are attending to girls seeking family planning services.
Mr Kolala disclosed this on Friday last week during a workshop organised by Youth Alive.
The workshop was held under the theme “HIV/AIDS-free Generation is Possible”.
“In the last quarter, health centres in the district recorded an increase in the number of girls aged between 10 and 15 years old seeking family planning services. Some of the girls actually request for the injection contraceptive,” he said.
He said there is nothing sinister about girls aged between 10 and 15 years old acquiring family planning service.
Mr Kolala said currently, there is no specific contraceptive (pill and injection) for children.
“The girls are given the same dose as adults and there is no harm as the liver is fully functional by the time they are 12 years old and the average age of the girls seeking the services is 12 years,” he said.
He said the girls are usually accompanied by parents and or guardians.
Mr Kolala said the girls and their parents are counselled before the service is administered.
“Sometimes it is the parents that are prompted to bring their children to seek the service due to the high number of girls having unprotected sex and falling pregnant in the district,” Mr Kolala said.
Mr Kolala, however, said the health centres have not been able to follow up on how the girls being administered with the services are fairing.

And you didn’t know all this time that you were insane. Jesus was whose son? The hospital at Chainama now has in stock your medication. Go there and explain politely that you haven’t been feeling well lately in your head. You feel as if some parts will fall off, in fact some might because last night you saw a screw on the floor near your pillow. Take the screw too, the neurosurgeon will put it back.

Ubu bupulumushi, how do you take a child of 10 years for family planning. Such children are just being initiated into sex business. Parents who are “sex” workers can take their daughters because they want their children to carry on the sex business. Children should be taught and encouraged to love school, not making them to start thinking of having children at that age.

“Sometimes it is the parents that are prompted to bring their children to seek the service due to the high number of girls having unprotected sex and falling pregnant in the district,” Mr Kolala said. This means that the girls are mature even if they are 10 years old and promiscuous.

children at the age of 10 years taking contraceptives? God help us whether the parents are sex workers or not this is unacceptable. These kids are going to have terrible effects in future. Do they even think of HIV/AIDS?

Can the government cage these idiots(parents and children) becouse they are encouraging defilement and if not the threshold for defilement should be lowered to 9yrs.It is evident enough to say these picnin’s are being defiled.

Why should one even ask how these girls are faring when they are the ones who are perpetuating promiscuity in the tender aged girls? That’s being hopeless and silly at the same time. That is now as good as distributing condoms to such tender age, what do you think the said girls will be doing with the condoms? Same applies to the contraceptives, these girls becomes meat and food for the foolish adults because these men think the girls are more sweeter than old aged women with finished grooves. To me the whole issue must be condemned by every reasonable Zambian especially parents and guardians.

am very disappointment with what is happening in our country(zambian)parents are allowing sex to their daughter’s at the age of 10 years old,by allowing them taking contraception not realizing that it will affect their daughters future (e.g) not producing children’s which is the gift of marriage.
