Nawakwi Writes To SATA Over UNZA Bursaries

Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) president Edith Nawakwi has written to President Michael Sata requesting his positive urgent intervention in the bursary crisis at the University of Zambia.
In her letter to the President dated 1st October and made available to QFM News, Ms Nawakwi says as a mother and a beneficiary of government sponsorship she humbly seeks for President Sata’s personal intervention on what has evidently has been an attempt to sabotage the future of young people.

Ms Nawakwi stresses that with the prevailing high poverty levels and high tuition fees, it is impossible for the majority of the parents to afford the cost of university Education.

She adds that it is also evident that the country will not attain the Millennium Development Goal on education in this year of golden jubilee if parents fail to sponsor children to attain higher education.

The FDD president has also humbly reminded President Sata that the University of Zambia was founded on an oasis of knowledge, research and excellence to provide expert human resource needed for national development.

Ms Nawakwi has is hopeful that President Michael Sata will use his discretion and direct that all deserving first year students at the University of Zambia be awarded government bursaries.

A prospective first year student at the University of Zambia is reported to have committed suicide after failing to acquire a bursary.

    What a wrong mind set for our polititians!

    African democracy, Really?

    One man controlling the whole country from state house and the polical system is still called democracy? Shame!

    If the current Zambian political system is a republican democratic one, where then do we place monarchs and autocracies?

    Can the President surely read Nawakwi’s letter when he had struggled to read a speech in parliament?

      Typical of stupid Zambian politicians his illness goes beyond political divide instead of putting their political differences aside one goes to right Sata a silly letter over basaries these are the ones who constantly check on any bad news. The president is seriously ill Nawakwi should be sensible enough as a woman and a political figure to set moral and compassionate example.

    Yangu Tataaae!!
    BaNawakwi, you should have just ended at bursaries and suicide. Nomba mwaya onto the MDGs!! Mayo, MDGs focus on grade one to nine as a Universal target. Meaning, Zambia is on course of having these kids go through basic education, albeit, without teachers & poor funding.

    Nawakwi and other beneficiaries must be helping government on how they can formulate a system of paying back their bursaries to assist the new generation students instead if writing to HE on how the country won’t achieve MDGs. I believe it is high time this bursary is operated on the similar basis of a pension scheme

    As a genuine beneficiary of the GRZ Basury, I want to propose the following;

    The busaries committee should be appointed by Govt for only one year from people in society to bechaired by the P/S.

    These people should include;

    Representative of the House of Chiefs
    Ministry of Finance
    Former beneficiaries in society
    The Church representative
    University or college rep.

    As if she really cares, it’s all for show, just to make herself relevant to Zambia’s political landscape, so that we do not forget that she still exists.
